aka, I’ve talked about this a million times, but I wanted to stick all my thoughts in one place. Also, specifically kicked off by @steinbecks’ fascinating take on him here.

Warning: I am aggressively indifferent to non-film material apart from novelizations and scripts. EU material, past and present, does not enter into my interpretations.

Okay. I think that how we understand Anakin’s identity as Darth Vader is … often flawed. Vader’s sense of his identity seems to get subsumed into Yoda’s, Obi-Wan’s, and Palpatine’s sense of his identity. But the whole idea of Anakin-in-the-past and Darth-Vader-in-the-present as ontologically separate is not an idea that Anakin himself ever subscribes to.

So I wrote something that isn't dredged up out of my hard drive, or a crossover. Not exactly a crossover. Just ... inspired by something I'm still flailing over. I dealt with this by writing fic about it. In another fandom. (Anyone who's been following me over there will have a good idea what I'm talking about. And if you want to know what possessed me to write this, the explanation is below. :D)

title: set on this path
verse:
Anakin defeats Obi-Wan at Mustafar, but Padmé still dies in childbirth; tw: abuse, suicide, character deaths (even by my lights, this is not a happy story - I'd go PG or PG-13, rating-wise)

I've been terribly behind on everything and trying to focus(ish) on school, but I finally finished one of the responses to my last meme.

ladyhadhafang asked for "Every different person's thoughts as the Clone Wars begin," set in a SW/ATLA fusion 'verse, to the music of "This Is War." I declined to fit that into 100 words.

title: this is war (I am that brilliant)

[Note: I personally like to imagine that Korra, Tenzin, and Lin Bei Fong invented space travel and the residents of the Avatar universe spread far and wide, until it became... y'know, Star Wars. But less white. Maybe it was later than that, though. You choose!]

I have, somehow, managed to acquire too many pictures for a normal picspam since my last picspam. So instead, here are just the gifs -- all Star Wars, as usual. A few are in sets, for which I sorta-kinda came up with titles.

So apparently I will never run out of these (eta: holy crap there were a lot of them). And I'm gearing up for my essay on the eighteenth-century sublime as a tool of masculine domination (we were supposed to use Northanger Abbey but I got the okay to use Sanditon instead) and a final for my Bible-as-literature class and a revision/four-page-explanation of revision, so.

I wonder if anybody can guess my favourite character. *whistling*

I meant to do the Austen one, really, but most of those who'd be interested have seen most of them already anyway, and ... I'll try and do a double Austen-Tolkien one Friday or Saturday, maybe. In the meanwhile, I've been wandering around tumblr and found a bunch of awesome Star Wars things (too many for this post!), mostly from one shiny tumblr -- though, to be honest, I don't perfectly remember everything I've posted before. Here's to hoping for very little overlap!

I was just looking over my tags and realized that the only things I haven't actually posted in my lj (and dw) are the three things I wrote expressly for a livejournal challenge: First Impressions, The Adventures of Lucy Skywalker, and Revenge of the Jedi. So, here we go -- backwards, of course, because I feel like it. Also, I just remembered -- with the latter two, I amused myself by alluding to as many other fandoms as I could possibly manage without derailing the story. I'll list the references later, but feel free to look for them, if you want. ;)

------------------------

Title: Revenge of the Jedi (Prologue)

Fanverse: Revenge of the Jedi, obviously

Blurb: After the escape from Cloud City, Vader keeps plotting against the Emperor and trying to get Luke to help him, Leia gets drawn into the plight of the surviving Alderaanians, Han hangs on Jabba's wall, and Luke leaves the squadron to be a full-time Jedi.

Pairings/warnings/assorted notes: various alternate pairings; references to genocide and murder; while the story occasionally draws on material from ROTJ, the PT, and even (gasp!) the EU, it isn't compliant with the canon of anything except the film versions of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Also, there is a shiny fanmix here. <3

Length: 58,773 words (prologue + seventeen chapters; finished)

Adding another (non-serial!) one, because, uh, drabble bargains are sacred, and I don't very many will take me up on it anyway.

Drabble meme

Every person who wants to gets to request a drabble from me. In return, you have to post this in your journal and write a drabble for me.

Post all fandoms you're willing to write for. Your friends can pick a relationship, a story arc, a missing scene, or pretty much anything they want, unless the author has previously mentioned that they will not write it. They comment with what they want, and you write drabbles and post it in your LiveJournal.

Fandoms: Austen, Harry Potter, Middle-earth, and Star Wars; you can ask for anything from the canons (er, primary canons) or any of my stories yes, Austen friends, even that one

While I've been mulling over this one for awhile, I didn't sit down to write it until last week, when I really needed to cheer myself up. Everything's better now, so here we go:

Ten things I don't hate about the prequel trilogy

(Warnings: don't hate doesn't mean love or even like. I do talk a little about things I hate to explain the things I don't. There's the occasional spasm of fannish glee, plenty of SHRIEKING IN ALL CAPS [or italics], and lots of rambling. I ended up meandering past Red Letter Media, Greek mythology, and my fannish worship of Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Also, TV Tropes. Okay? Okay.)

Yes, I'm part of the slavering horde of Empire fanboys fangirls fans. Yes, there are many, many, many other people who have waxed eloquent about it (most notably, Roger Ebert). But I haven't, much, and in the wake of the quasi-backlash following Irvin Kershner's death, I felt the urge to stop ranting for a day and instead talk about why The Empire Strikes Back turns my pupils into little pink hearts.

(TV Tropes warning blah blah blah)

Technically, I suppose this is wildly AU fic of the prequel trilogy.  Technically.  However, I actually wrote it as part of my OT headcanon.  So it's more ... the lovechild of the PT and my personal interpretation of the OT.  (In this metaphor, the OT's genes are dominant, obviously.  [And now I'm thinking of OT/PT meta-fic, so I'll stop now.])

Title: Unlikely Alliances (1/3)

Fanverse: Elizabeth's headcanon

Blurb“The Emperor is dead,” said Palpatine.

Pairings/Warnings: Anakin/Padmé; politics, politicians, and one very screwed-up relationship

Length: 412 words

So, I've just finished watching the prequel trilogy.

Overall, I still dislike it, though I do agree that ROTS was by far the best of the prequels. The dialogue was somewhat less cringe-worthy (and by somewhat I mean ... somewhat) and I actually enjoyed the first twenty minutes or so. It was actually possible to follow the plot -- I knew what was going on, who was involved, and why it was happening. The Jedi Order didn't seem quite as criminally negligent, Obi-Wan was a decent human being until the end, and I actually cared about it all. And, of course, it was nice to see the most iconic badass to ever appear on film as at least marginally competent.

I just put myself through the first two prequels again.  (My reaction can be summed up in the following sentence:  WTF Obi-Wan?)

So of course I couldn't not add to my set of personal canons.  Even if I take a fairly casual approach to the actual canon (both for this and the next one).

At twenty-four, I'm pulling my first all-nighter.  4:30 in the morning ZOMG.  *yawn*

Anyway!  Thoughts on the rest of the OT:

-- the "Luke No, I am your father" scene is every bit as amazing as I remembered.  Again, I've heard complaints about Mark Hamill's acting, but it works for me.  If my superpowered cyborg archnemesis had cornered me, pwned me in a duel, chopped off my hand, and then informed me that he was my father and he'd really like to take out our common enemy and have some family togetherness time, do you know what would be the first thing out of my mouth?

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO," that's what.

fic!

anghraine: from the 2005 p&p: darcy standing at a piano while georgiana plays it (Default)
I've been reminded of my most popular WIP.

By "reminded" I don't mean that the act of posting a new story (*gasp*) brought said fic to mind, but that people commented to remind me about it.  I was left with a strong desire to write something completely unproductive, something completely unrelated to my WIPs, and short too.  So I decided I would write Ten Facts fic.  Lots of Ten Facts fic!  For a loose value of "facts."

Starting with Star Wars, because I just watched it and therefore have it fresh in my mind, and also because I want to write blatant melodrama with a clear conscience and nobody justifies melodrama like Darth "Drama Queen" Vader, and also because I've always found the conclusion to be somewhat personally unsatisfying.
