TW: incest
Dear Creator,
What a time to be alive! ;)
I’m already grateful, so most of the details here are about giving some direction. Feel free to do what you’d like outside of the DNWs. Also, these are mostly written with an eye to fic, so artists can take these as very rough guidelines.
General DNWs:
- Cheating on the incestuous partner (it’s OK if they both know and understand). Also jealousy; honestly, I prefer to avoid much attention to other romantic relationships.
- It doesn’t count because they don’t feel like family/they didn’t know/they grew up apart/whatever. Basically anything that tries to diminish the taboo; I like my taboos to be taboo!
- Dub-con and non-con: anything that smacks of grooming/power imbalance/exploitation within the family. Full consent is a must.
- No adult/child; I don’t care for large age differences in general.
- Sex is OK in fic (I'd rather not have it in art), but I prefer as little about bodily fluids as possible. No watersports, scat, BJs.
- Maledom, and generally any disparaging language (even joking/pretend).
Likes:
- Unhealthy narcissistic mutual obsession! It’s their similarities (particularly in character, though appearance is also good), their sense of sameness, that fuels their intimacy, not opposition. It’s especially great if they hate their actual self, but love it in the other person and find a measure of peace that way.
- Them vs the world. It’s particularly great if their similarity and understanding creates a refuge from the rest of the world.
- Always-a-girl genderswap. I prefer f/f and m/f, so feel free.
- Hurt/comfort, with a preference for comfort.
- Prickly/harsh person who turns out to be gentle and sweet with their loved one (but is genuinely harsh outside the bounds of the relationship). Bonus if they don’t really have it in them to seriously care about anyone but this one person.
- Femdom, from vague vibes all the way up.
- Most of all: whatever the details, two people who are both the Most Important Person to each other - nothing else can compare.
Henry Crawford/Mary Crawford: I’ve always loved Mary’s line that he “loves me, consults me, confides in me, and will talk to me by the hour together,” alongside the fact that he does think his unmarried sister is the appropriate confidante for his seduction plans. And accomplice in them, really. I’d like anything that dealt with that lack of boundaries + easy trust and solidarity with each other. Before, during, or after the novel are all fine.
Darcy/Fitzwilliam: Darcy describes his relationship with his cousin as one of “constant intimacy.” TELL ME MORE. Canon or AU is fine, though if canon, I’d prefer something either before P&P or not conflicting with Darcy/Elizabeth.
Lady Catherine de Bourgh/Lady Anne Darcy: Apart from a brief reference by Wickham, Lady Anne is only ever mentioned by Lady Catherine. Wickham, who grew up at Pemberley, is convinced of the Darcy/Anne de Bourgh engagement, which makes me think Lady Anne absolutely was 100% onboard. I’d like any (shippy!) take on them that explored the dynamic that led to planning their children’s marriages. And/or anything about Lady Catherine being the only one who talks about her/how it impacts her relationship with Anne’s children. Darcy implies that his mother wasn’t as amiable as his father, so I’d prefer a Lady Anne who isn’t entirely sweetness and light.
Adam/Adora: the music video for She-Ra is amazingly shippy. I’m honestly not too particular here. I just like the idea (and aesthetic) of them together, and the obvious He-Man/She-Ra alternate identity parallel. Nobody can really understand their lives but each other.
Fingolfin/Lalwen: Fingolfin’s sister following him over the Helcaraxe while his wife didn’t sure is interesting. Tell me about it, or what led to that level of devotion between them, or what it led to.
Faramir/Lothíriel: Lothíriel’s marriage to Éomer seems a close dynastic parallel to Faramir’s to Éowyn. I’d enjoy seeing a shippy take on what their personal relationship might be like, preferably after LOTR. I get a strong “arranged political match” vibe from the description of the marriage, so I prefer to avoid a Not Like The Other (Gondorian) Girls take on Lothíriel. I personally imagine her as very much a Dúnadan lady of Gondor.
Cersei/Jaime: I really like the romantic, part-courtly element to their relationship (he’s never slept with another woman! they only feel whole together! he was her solace from Robert!). But I also love the obvious badwrong. This is true of both the book and show versions, so feel free to choose either or some combination of both. But I intensely dislike the trope of a male villain whose moral development is signaled by a shift from his female villain partner to a good girl, and in general, the male villain who has a noble heart but has been dominated by his evil lover. So I would love to see anything that resisted those narratives in canon.
Luke/Leia: I’m happy for either canon or AU Luke/Leia. While I like Luke/Leia/Han, I would really like to see some Luke/Leia that is just L/L. I also prefer them to know about it. Anything dealing with the Skywalker legacy is great, as long as it’s clear that 1) Leia regards the Organas as her real parents and 2) while Luke loved his uncle and aunt, he emphatically sees Anakin and Padmé as his real parents. I see them as much more alike than different, and think fandom undersells Luke’s restlessness, anger, recklessness, and occasional fatalism, so I’d particularly like seeing something that underlines their similarities.
Maggie Tulliver/Tom Tulliver: I love the heartrending intensity of their relationship, particularly on Maggie’s side, and I do think Tom really loves her. I’d love to see something where they’re actually happy. Exploring their final moments would be cool, but a Nobody Dies AU that accepts the last-minute reconciliation/swerve in Tom’s feelings as real and long-standing would be very cool, too. I loathe Stephen Guest with all my soul, so I’m fully onboard with anything that messes with him. I also kind of like the idea that Tom’s crush on Lucy is partly a displacement of his feelings for Maggie, so you can go there.
Leandra/Icara: it’s tragic and intense and YAY SOULBONDS. I especially love Icara’s anguished rants about how Leandra is her sister, her soul. I’d love something about their reconciliation, particularly if it involved kicking out the wizard. But also, anything to do with the soulbond would be great.
