Regarding the inheritance of Pemberley: It was sometimes the case that ancient, landed families without a son to inherit would require a man marrying into the family to take the daughter's name, in order to keep the name going. That might be an interesting source of conflict, since a lot of men wouldn't go for it even with the prospect of being rich to tempt them. I can provide one or two examples, if you're interested.
