Patronage Rant

I was reading an essay on patronage in Jane Austen — a very nice essay, by and large — and of course, Darcy comes up. As one of the “ideal landlords” (with Mr Knightley, although they are different sorts of ideals because their roles are different), that is inevitable.

But like so many others, the author does not seem to regard him as a single individual, but rather seems stuck in the Saul/Paul dichotomy.

answer!fic strikes again

So, I was thinking about “Lost in Austen.”  I hated it.  Well, I hated what I saw of it – some pathetic and rather idiotic fake Janeite going on adventures in some twisted and rather idiotic fake version of Pride and Prejudice.  However, sci-fi/fantasy buff that I am, I loved the concept
