I’ve been going over the first quarter of my novel and I think that part is pretty solid in general (it’s really in the middle where it loses its way), but also the main villain is like … xenophobia, vaguely? There are specific xenophobic characters who are nasty pieces of work, but they’re not major characters, they just cause problems.

Some of them are important problems, but the inciting characters aren’t terribly important in themselves. The Big Bad, as far as one exists, isn’t mentioned until *checks* 205 pgs in.

I’m finally watching Oh My General and it’s amazing

Apart from Ye Zhou herself, I think my favourite characters might be Zhao Yujin’s concubines.

(He himself is pretty annoying except as comic relief. Also, Ye Zhou's henchladies are delightful.)
