He's kind of evolved from my initial conception, but yeah, I think it's fair to say that he isn't compromised the way Obi-Wan and Yoda are wrt both Anakin and the old Jedi (I do agree with you re: their relationship w/ the Republic!). Lucy destroying the Death Star matters to him more than anything any Jedi has ever done, which is important to her even though it also limits how much assistance he can really offer.
