Eyeah. Most of the SW fics I read are still fixing the Prequel saga, and don't have time for the complete nonsense that was the sequel series. I remember fandom reaction to the Prequels: "George Lucas has lost his fucking mind/George Lucas was never that great, he just had good scriptwriters and editors covering up his mistakes, but this time, he got his own way on everything and look at the mess!"
No, fans did not "respect Lucas's artistic decisions", and still don't.
