Yeah, you definitely have a point, and there's also some of the same... squick might be the wrong word, but problem, anyway, that some of Eddings' non-sorcerous women have--- as you say, like Han, she's the Badass Normal caught up in the lives of these people who wield supernatural powers, and when you couple that with the gender issues, it gets... meh... fast. In ways that definitely don't add up to being a role model. (Hence my always-forever love of Padme as Palpatine's "temporal" protege in the Senate, the person he plans to use as his secular-and-civilian minion, while Anakin is the spiritual-and-military minion. It gives her a role and makes her normal-ness not a handicap but rather a feature.)
