I got an excellent response to my "but he's a MAN" post wrt Darcy. Nearly two months ago and reading it still restores my faith in a benevolent universe ;)

YES. Thank you (and your respondent) for once more talking excellent good sense about Darcy. He is not my favorite of all Austen's heroes, but he's certainly in the top three -- and I find his flaws to be eminently sympathetic ones, from a cerebral introvert's point of view.

I especially loved this:

(Honestly, “treats dependents extremely well, is occasionally unpleasant to distant acquaintances” is … the exact opposite of what should raise alarm.)
