A friend on tumblr is encouraging me to do Yuletide. I never have and there are some very appealing fandoms there (Mansfield Park! Heyer! The Hollow Crown! Emelan! She-Ra!) - and after the au_bigbang, 1k is nothing - but ... idk. I got pretty spoiled the last few years!

Day 7: Which is your favourite Austen couple?

I love Greer Garson, but I kind of loathe that version of the story. I mean, Lady Catherine turns out to be okay in the end! WTFBBQ?!? On a more trivial level, it is mildly annoying that they used 1840s costumes for the women.

I love Yuletide, been doing it for several years. Though I am currently annoyed that the Rihannsu subset of Star Trek is disqualified. Other Star Trek subfandoms are included, but not the Rihannsu books because they have the TOS characters as part of the main cast. Well, yes, but the stories focus on a wide variety of OCs who only exist in that continuity, and if they can say "You can request Batman Beyond but not Bruce Wayne", they should also be able to say "You can request the Rihannsu books but not Kirk, Spock, and McCoy."

Oh, the 1940 is terrible, in a hilarious sort of way. And yeah, the costuming was terrible (the men's are mid-Victorian too, I think?). I like the sheer verve, but it's not P&P by any stretch of the imagination.

I had the opposite irritation! I've always thought of franchise fandoms as, well, franchise-wide. But apparently Star Wars EU X-Wing novels count as their own fandom. And most people don't write for those, so I guess it counts, but ... Star Wars? Seriously? I don't know, it seems kind of inconsistent.

Well, most of the characters from the X-Wing novels never appear in anything else. So if you love those characters ... Yuletide might be the only time you ever get fic for them. So that's why. (They tried to eliminate subfandoms of larger fandoms a few years back, and got an outcry.)

Yeah, I figured it had to be something like that. And of course there are franchise works in different continuities and things. It does seem odd that some are okay and some aren't, though.
