Tumblr crosspost (1 July 2020)
[ETA 7/22/2023: I'm honestly laughing about this one, given that the latest hell feature is halfway driving me off.]
I like male characters individually, I very easily identify with them, and I enjoy their relationships and dynamics with others of any genders. But when it comes to romance, 90% of the time I do not give a single fuck if there aren’t one or more women involved. So I keep seeing these posts about how this m/m ship or that one is what gay people really want, or how only straights would like X, or how m/m shipping is part of being a lesbian in fandom or whatever, and it’s just like … speak for yourself, sis.
(Look. My femslash and het ships are not activism. But they are impacted by my orientation because it deeply influences how I engage with romantic content. This is probably true of most people! But it doesn't give any of us a claim to dictate how the're going to interact for everyone!)
But in my personal experience, the absolute lowest point was people calling Korra “Whorra,” something they still do (as in, “I saw it yesterday”).
I actually finished something, and in under 4000 words!
It’s an original short story that I mostly wrote five years ago and have never been able to finish, until I sat down to do it today and just … finished it in a couple of hours. IDK but finally I have a workable draft.
(It also wouldn't exist if not for fandom, because I was thinking of Aragorn/Fíriel But Darker, and also Cesare, and also generic fairy tale heroes. So i smashed it all together because I had to write something really fast for a class, and somehow it's one of the better things I've written, lol. *fingers crossed that i can do something with it*)
[ETA 7/22/2023: I've submitted it three times or so since then, but I've always had some messy sections in the middle, so I do want to try again now that I've cleaned it up. We'll see—I do "believe in it" as it were, but with a lot of uncertainty about getting across what I'm trying to, so ... >_>]
