I hate the assumption that any and all female characters will take their husbands' names, but I hate it most for Leia. I know it was an EU thing for some absurd reason, so I assume it's clinging to that or whatever, but also. Ugh.
And "well, actually I headcanon that both take their spouses' names in some form and so that's why she..." is a band-aid for a much wider and more obnoxious trend that people cannot seem to stop assuming will be a thing in every conceivable case (including in space, in a different galaxy!).

What really bothers me is Breha. Breha is queen! In a matriarchy! in what fucking world would she take her husband's name?!? Which is why I headcanon that the "Senator Bail Antilles of Alderaan" who gets mentioned as a candidate for Chancellor in TPM is Leia's dad, and he took his wife's last name when they got married.

But yes, it's also frustrating with Breha. And coming up with some kinds of backwards rationale for Padmé's nieces to share her name when ... there's literally no need.
