Deep thought for the day:

Eärendil is very cool and special, and I love that Elrond and Elros seem to have named their daughters for him, and I’m very happy that Elrond acknowledges him at the Council in LOTR. Shine on, Ardamírë!

Tagged: #aiya eärendil elenion ancalima :') #i don't think a whole lot about him but i periodically get eärendil hate on my posts and i'm just like ... yeah no #eönwë's salutation is one of my favourite passages in the entire silm tbh

Could not agree more! And I love the trend of naming their daughters for him, specifically. (Though I do wonder about Ardamírë/Vardamir too -- it's a tribute to Varda, of course, but I think it could be reductively translated to "star," and, of course, it mostly rhymes with Eärendil's mother-name).

In my fics set in Aman, I often slip in a little "aiya Eärendil elenion ancalima" as a kind of bracha-equivalent upon seeing the Star of High Hope rise, like one makes for the sunset.
