attributions and memes

When I wrote last year's au_bigbangs, I vaguely referred to two other fandoms within the stories - for the lulz! - and then amused myself by stuffing as many references to as many others of mine as I could shove in. I always meant to do a proper attribution post, but just ... forgot. But now I've remembered! So here they are. (The citations are in white, so feel free to guess if it amuses you.)

Unpopular Opinion Friday

Maybe I should just have hatred empowers us as a tag.

It’s rather awkward when you run across conversations you’d really like to be involved in but … you aren’t, and even if it wouldn’t be inappropriate to butt in, it feels sort of pointless. So I’m just going to be passive-aggressive and declare this

theorizing about the Force (crack at no extra fee)

Anyone who follows my journal has probably realized that I love-hate Return of the Jedi and hate-hate the prequels and EU. You probably know that when it comes to things that don’t really fit with previously established canon, or that I just find awful, I prefer (1) objecting at great length and (2) assuming they never really happened anyway, to finding some way to integrate them into the same canon, rationalizing the inconsistency away. I go for tossing things into the Discontinuity Bin over Canon Welding any day.

Last Words

Awhile back, I read a rather ... hm, peculiar essay on Pride and Prejudice. (Yes, I know. Shocking.) It argued that P&P's conclusion is sekritly subversive and anti-establishment and blah blah blah. This is nothing new, but the essay in question based its argument on the 'fact' that the last words of the book are about the many inconveniences in Darcy and Elizabeth's lives, rather than the 'happily ever after' that the misguided romantics may be expecting.

(In actuality, the last two lines of P&P are as follows:

With the Gardiners, they were always on the most intimate terms. Darcy, as well as Elizabeth, really loved them; and they were both ever sensible of the warmest gratitude towards the persons who, by bringing her into Derbyshire, had been the means of uniting them.

I know.  It's so edgy.)
