Revenge of the Jedi (Prologue)

I was just looking over my tags and realized that the only things I haven't actually posted in my lj (and dw) are the three things I wrote expressly for a livejournal challenge: First Impressions, The Adventures of Lucy Skywalker, and Revenge of the Jedi. So, here we go -- backwards, of course, because I feel like it. Also, I just remembered -- with the latter two, I amused myself by alluding to as many other fandoms as I could possibly manage without derailing the story. I'll list the references later, but feel free to look for them, if you want. ;)

------------------------

Title: Revenge of the Jedi (Prologue)

Fanverse: Revenge of the Jedi, obviously

Blurb: After the escape from Cloud City, Vader keeps plotting against the Emperor and trying to get Luke to help him, Leia gets drawn into the plight of the surviving Alderaanians, Han hangs on Jabba's wall, and Luke leaves the squadron to be a full-time Jedi.

Pairings/warnings/assorted notes: various alternate pairings; references to genocide and murder; while the story occasionally draws on material from ROTJ, the PT, and even (gasp!) the EU, it isn't compliant with the canon of anything except the film versions of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Also, there is a shiny fanmix here. <3

Length: 58,773 words (prologue + seventeen chapters; finished)

I did it. Somehow.

I got Revenge in, after every possible thing that could go wrong going wrong. My computer lost Internet access. My computer had to be restaged. My borrowed computer lost the entire post and I had to write it all over again.

But it's in. 58,000 words -- I don't even know. And Lucy was 28,000, I think, so together I basically wrote a YA novel. NOTE TO THE FUTURE: NEVER DO THIS AGAIN. EVER.

turn into Paranoiaville at the second left (+ memes)

So, au_bigbang season is nearly over, and my fics are just about done. Naturally, this means it's time to come to the crushing realization that they're both awful and I should have done everything different and if only I had procrastinated less, or ... gone to school less ... I could figure out how to make them not-awful.

moar acewank + memes (24)

Oh look, another acewank. Fail on both sides this time, hurrah, and the strangely inevitable discussions with non-asexuals taking it upon themselves to define asexuality for reals, and some aces rushing in to cry 'but we're not the bad ones!' while others try to take epic levels in douchebaggery, and something about how how non-asexual people are really just like demis. Apparently, non-asexual people customarily feel no sexual attraction whatsoever until they're well into a relationship. Uh, the more you know, I guess.

There's a cool-looking fic meme (that maybe two people will respond to, heh), but... I actually need to write, so I'm not going to do it yet. However, gdocs is down, so I'll do another with a clear conscience.

I'm way behind on my replies, but eh, whatever. At least I'm nearly done with 10, which has been a sloooow chapter. Though it sped up about the time that that Luke saved himself from the flesh-eating beetles. (It makes sense in context.)

(Maybe.)

So, a bunch of memes before I finish up 10 and head straight into 11, which I probably won't have cause to answer, but ... meh. (At the moment, that's rather my response to anything. *eyes posting date*)

getting my memes in

Nothing much important today, except I wrote over two thousand words of Revenge. It's probably a bit indulgent, but I'm actually pleased - I've managed to get the PT alternate canon in through occasional exposition and Luke's Jedi training (current unit: clairvoyance). In some ways, it's almost more about the alt!backstory than about the present; the sequel will probably focus more on the present-day characters, but there's a lot to set up. Anyway, I'm a bit gleeful because I managed to include my OFC even though she's been dead for twenty years, hint at the Anakin/OFC pairing, and more than hint at Bail/Padmé.

Come at me, Mary Sue paranoia.

Leia's plotline is finally settling into place, too; I should be able to end this with the coronation like I wanted, even though it wreaks some havoc on the rest of the outline, and fanwank her unexplained loss of authority in ROTJ. Without actually doing to her what ROTJ did. Hint: my post on the slave Leia debate is a pretty strong clue of what doesn't happen. She's not going to end up General Solo's soldier girl, either.

Yoda theory + tentative Lucyfic idea

Fanwank of the day:

When Luke decides to abandon his training and run off to Cloud City, Yoda famously warns him that if he goes, he will end up destroying all for which they have fought and suffered.  This is one of the fandom's Great Conundrums, since -- as we all know -- Leia & Co were only able to escape because R2-D2 fixed the hyperdrive, and Artoo was only there because Luke brought him along.  So Luke going to Cloud City indirectly saved his friends.

Moreover, Luke's confrontation with Vader (however psychologically scarring!) is what gives him the opportunity to sense the good in him, and Vader's "if you don't join me, I'll have to destroy you ... in a minute ... another minute ... wait, come back!" makes it KIND OF SUPER OBVIOUS.  So if you think about it, Luke going to Cloud City led to his determination to save his father which led to the Emperor's death and the downfall of the Empire.

... Um.  That leaves us with the immortal question of Yoda, what were you thinking?

This is what. )

Plotting Revenge

'cause some puns are too obvious not to use.

When I first started planning out the Revenge of the Jedi universe, I was thrilled at all the possibilities.  I still am, really.  But it's a lot complicated now that I've given it some more thought.

so, I did it

I signed up for au_bb.

Twice.

Yes:  I'm going to be writing two completely different stories, in the same fandom, dealing with the same characters, at the same time.  The last time I did this, it was The Rich Are Always Respectable and Season of Courtship -- which, as some of you can attest, are very, very, very different.

more Shmific

So, this is an interquel to my fic Distaff Lines (which was itself constructed out of my incoherent NaNo draft), and probably doesn't make much any sense without it. Also, lots of drama and tragedy and bad things in general.

Title: Ends of Smoky Days

Fanverse: Distaff Lines (canon-compliant)

Blurb: Shmi endures.

Pairings/warnings: genocide, enslavement, implied future rape

Owen Lars drabble

I have Spanish homework. Awesome Spanish homework, but after I'd spent an hour trying to come up with a way to use parecerse, I decided it was probably time to stop.

So instead, I have this. Which also doesn't use parecerse, but it might if it weren't in English.

Title: Flashback

Fanverse: canon-compliant or Revenge

Blurb: That's what you said last year!

Pairings/warnings: none

another year, another au_bb

I think I'd like to do it again. I'm just not sure what. There's the SW genderswap, and my only clear idea about that is that Owen wants Lucy safely married, and then there's the P&P genderswap with [personal profile] hl (but I don't want it to be too much of a rehash of First Impressions, so even if we do end up collaborating, I'm trying to leave it more up to her), and there's the five gazillion other ideas that flash into my head on a daily basis, and there's the serious Slytherin!Harry fic (what I really think it would have been like, that is), and there's also the whole Revenge of the Jedi thing I fell madly in love with. (Queen Leia!)

I still haven't decided. But I did end up writing meta fic metafic something for that last one.

KNEEL BEFORE LEIA

I hope you all had a merry Christmas, f-list, and that there's a decent probability of us all having a good year in 2011.

So!

I used to wonder why Leia is always Princess Leia.  I mean, of course there's Everything's Better With Princesses (TV Tropes!), but it seemed a little odd that she'd be continually identified by that persona.  Naturally she would in ANH, and I can even see why she'd want to retain her Alderaanian title -- as a way of honouring her parents and Alderaan and so on.  No, it's simpler than that:

Why is she a princess at all?  A princess and not a queen?

why this perplexed me... )

"Bechdel" should be a verb

As in, "I'm going to Bechdel this canon."  (For which genius idea I must credit hele.)

Towards the end of October, I decided to write a deliberately Bechdel-passing SW fic.  read the largely unnecessary introduction here ... )

OT, of course -- particularly c. ESB, when all my favourite developments are taking place.  And it's a particularly optimal time for AUs.

actual fic!

Technically, I suppose this is wildly AU fic of the prequel trilogy.  Technically.  However, I actually wrote it as part of my OT headcanon.  So it's more ... the lovechild of the PT and my personal interpretation of the OT.  (In this metaphor, the OT's genes are dominant, obviously.  [And now I'm thinking of OT/PT meta-fic, so I'll stop now.])
