I reblogged a nice comment on my elaborate Avatar/Star Wars plotbunny + the original (May 2013) post, which is:

I’ve written Avatar in the Star Wars ‘verse in varying ways, but what I really want is Star Wars in the Avatar verse. I mentioned some vague ideas before, but what I’d really to either see or get around to writing someday is this:

Air

- The Order of the White Lotus is highly visible and active as a body of warriors. Originally, they were neutral peacekeepers from all four nations, and guardians of the Avatar. Now they’ve largely evolved into defenders/diplomats for the Fire Nation. They also take command of all benders they find as young children and train them in the bending arts and traditions of the Order, but plenty are never found and have to make their own way.

- Qui-Gon Jinn is an earthbender and unorthodox Lotus warrior. Through some various adventures involving his apprentice Obi-Wan (an airbender) and the (disguised, non-bender) Southern Water Tribe chieftainess Padmé, he discovers that the Avatar, believed to be vanished from the earth for generations, has reincarnated as a young boy named Anakin Skywalker. Anakin is a suspiciously golden-eyed slave in the Earth Kingdom.

I mean, far more than in my 20s. It's ridiculous and, anyway, yesterday sucked. LALA FANDOM

title: per ardua ad astra (16/?)
verse: Death Star
characters: Cassian Andor, Jyn Erso, Bodhi Rook; Governor Tarkin; OC—unnamed sergeant; Jyn/Cassian
stuff that happens: Tarkin has a chat with the Alderaanians, and Jyn helps destroy a datachip.
previous chapters: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen

The rest of the room remained quiet and still. Nobody dared meet anyone else’s eyes. Cassian himself fixed his gaze on the governor’s skeletal profile.

Tarkin favoured the men of Alderaan with a thin smile.

“If you believe the Empire has forgotten you,” he, “let me assure you: it has not.”

Hello, Dreamwidth! I've been howling over Rogue One on Tumblr for days now, which is totally fine. Haha. Merry Christmas.

Short version: I think a couple of the criticisms in terms of structure are legit, and also OH MY GOD I LOVE LOVE I LOVE THIS IS PROBABLY MY FAVOURITE SW SINCE EMPIRE OH GODDDDD ALSO TWO OTPS OUT OF ONE MOVIE WHAT A FILM A+++++

An anon asked me for a review, so my longer and more coherent review:

In my head, this post has always been the natural follow up to my Death Star rant, aka “why Luke was totally justified in blowing up the Death Star and certainly not a mass murderer.” Actually I'm not sure they have anything to do with each other, but anyway.

So apparently I will never run out of these (eta: holy crap there were a lot of them). And I'm gearing up for my essay on the eighteenth-century sublime as a tool of masculine domination (we were supposed to use Northanger Abbey but I got the okay to use Sanditon instead) and a final for my Bible-as-literature class and a revision/four-page-explanation of revision, so.

I wonder if anybody can guess my favourite character. *whistling*

In the interests of practicing conciseness (...not my strength), and not beginning every post with random updates about my life, I finally caved and made a twitter account instead. Anghraine, of course.

Title: Revenge of the Jedi (7/17)

Fanverse: Revenge of the Jedi

Blurb: Leia is guilty and restless in the Rebellion; Luke is sent through the Department of Backstory, and realizes what it means.

I was just looking over my tags and realized that the only things I haven't actually posted in my lj (and dw) are the three things I wrote expressly for a livejournal challenge: First Impressions, The Adventures of Lucy Skywalker, and Revenge of the Jedi. So, here we go -- backwards, of course, because I feel like it. Also, I just remembered -- with the latter two, I amused myself by alluding to as many other fandoms as I could possibly manage without derailing the story. I'll list the references later, but feel free to look for them, if you want. ;)

------------------------

Title: Revenge of the Jedi (Prologue)

Fanverse: Revenge of the Jedi, obviously

Blurb: After the escape from Cloud City, Vader keeps plotting against the Emperor and trying to get Luke to help him, Leia gets drawn into the plight of the surviving Alderaanians, Han hangs on Jabba's wall, and Luke leaves the squadron to be a full-time Jedi.

Pairings/warnings/assorted notes: various alternate pairings; references to genocide and murder; while the story occasionally draws on material from ROTJ, the PT, and even (gasp!) the EU, it isn't compliant with the canon of anything except the film versions of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Also, there is a shiny fanmix here. <3

Length: 58,773 words (prologue + seventeen chapters; finished)

I'm behind on my memes and ... I'm not doing them today, either. But I do have the next chunk of my scene-by-scene rewatching of Star Wars, aka A New Hope. So here we go, SW (and TV Tropes)!

I've wanted to do this for ages, and thought of it again with all the shopping around for girl!Luke and wistfully re-reading plotbunny lists and such. So, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] fialleril and [livejournal.com profile] ladyhadhafang, here's a slightly different kind of picspam -- a (partial) reboot!cast for a Star Wars.

This year's presidential race was looking pretty boring. I mean, I do like the president and not only because I grew up under Bush OMG, but exciting he is not, and Mitt Romney? C'mon. And I don't need to hear any speeches to know who I'm voting for, because I'd sooner cut my wrists than vote for a modern-day Republican, so I was all "meh" about it. But Bachmann's awful goes so far that even when she says things that are personally offensive to me, I can't bring myself to be offended because it's so ludicrous and I just laugh instead. It's like So Bad It's Good for politics.

Besides, I very much doubt that she can beat Obama, while Romney might have a fighting chance. So I hope she wins it on those grounds, too.

My stepfather considered registering as a Republican just to nominate her. I'll admit, I laughed, though I'm such a staunch Democrat that I suspect my brain would spontaneously explode if I tried.

Also, a(nother!) SW picspam while I'm here - I'll do the meme later this afternoon. Mostly art, this time.

Otherwise known as the part wherein we find that Tarkin's death was quicker than he deserves, Leia kicks ass, Vader did not blow up Alderaan, and I theorise about the Force. Warning for TV Tropes, per the usual, though not many.

This has become more a close reading (with TV Tropes and the occasional picture) than anything else -- if wasn't already that from the beginning. Meh, whatever. That works too. It may even be useful than pure backstory-hunting for the au_bb. Especially if I do The Adventures of Lucy Skywalker -- I'll want to have looked very closely at the entire OT, and this is the point where things would start changing. There is no way Han would react to Lucy the way he does Luke.

Anyway, back to Tatooine, everyone's favourite Crapsack World.
