I've wanted to do this for ages, and thought of it again with all the shopping around for girl!Luke and wistfully re-reading plotbunny lists and such. So, inspired by
fialleril and
ladyhadhafang, here's a slightly different kind of picspam -- a (partial) reboot!cast for a Star Wars.
It's genderswapped, of course. Even though I don't watch many TV shows or movies and don't know that many actresses. Anyway.
In rough order of narrative importance, here we go:
Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader

Anna Skywalker
Scarlett Johansson
I'm not actually casting the PT as such, but the OT characters, so -- young girl!Anakin. This was one of the easiest to choose, looks-wise. Oh, and I called her Anna, rather than some more obvious thing, because none of the slightly-more-feminine-sounding variations of Anakin I could think of sounded right. And traditional names are not unheard of in that family (Owen? Luke?). Randomly, it means gift in Quenya, which seems vaguely appropriate.

Lady Vadé
Cate Blanchett
Obviously there'd be a bit more scarring and such. But she looks about right, I think, and has a kickass voice, which are pretty much my standards for Vader. Also, I didn't just go with "Lady Vader" because (1) as far as I've seen, female Sith tend to have more overtly feminine names, and (2) I can see Palpatine choosing something associated with her own identity, rather than Anna's, while for Anna it would ... also be appropriate.
Meme bargain
Yes, another one. Hey, I like getting stories. So, paying my dues to ladyhafang--
The first five people (in theory) to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble/ficlet of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.
I don't know if anybody will do this, but hey, a bargain's a bargain.

Day 14: Tell us about a time you met another asexual, whether in real life or online.
I've never met one in real life. But I remember when I came out on my lj, and I was all half-covering my eyes and such, and
tree responded with something along the lines of "that's nice! so am I! here is the lj comm!" and it was awesome. And also, reinforced the you are not alone thing I'd just come around to, because it just went to show that you can never guess.

Day 14: Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
PG-13, thus far. I'm really not very comfortable with writing much in the way of sex or gore or whatever. Convenient discretion shots is where I'm at. I don't think even the one sex scene -- the wedding night following the marriage of Caroline Bingley and Sir Walter Elliot -- I deliberately set out to write (as a joke!) really qualifies as R (and definitely not higher).

Luke Skywalker

Leia SkywalkerKatee Sackhoff
Finding an attractive blonde actress who doesn't look like every other one was more challenging than I expected, to say the least. But Katee (not-blue eyes notwithstanding) was the closest I could find: wide smile, big eyes, broadish nose, right face shape, and totally badass. Seriously, can you imagine her storming Jabba's palace in the ROTJ black leather stage? Yeah, I thought so.
For some unknown reason, my town is prouder of a Twilight movie than of her. I do not understand this.
Oh, and I'm hoping the rationale for the name is obvious.
Princess Leia

Prince Luke
Ben Barnes
Probably the one that I'm least happy with, but he's the only guy I could think of that remotely resembled Carrie Fisher. I'm not really sure he could be badass enough, though. :\
Han Solo

Hana Solo
Summer Glau
Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi (young)
Kate Winslet
I'd originally thought of Miranda Otto, but Kate really fits my mental image much better.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (old)
Helen MirrenAs soon as I thought of genderswapping the original trilogy, Helen Mirren as Obi-Wan was the first to come to mind. Not only would Helen Mirren playing a Jedi be the best thing ever, but she's an awesome enough actor to replace Alec Guinness and looks reasonably like him. Though much more attractive, obvs.
The Emperor

The Empress
Judi Dench
Okay, I just used Lady Catherine for the lulz. But seriously, I can see her hamming it up with appropriate glee, and she could be totally creepy. She made Lady Catherine creepy, it shouldn't be hard with lightning shooting from her fingertips.
Incidentally, this is a character I didn't even realize would be genderswapped until well into that, and then my heart exploded into tiny bits of joy. Just, think about it. THE EMPRESS.
Governor Tarkin
Maggie Smith
I never considered anyone else. At all. For one moment. Some things are simply meant to be.
Lando Calrissian

Landa Calrissian
Zoe Saldana
Landa Calrissian, former adventuress, present Baroness-Administrator of Cloud City, and future general in the Rebellion. Hell yeah.
Admiral Piett

Admiral Piett
Claudia Black
She matches up close enough looks-wise, could totally be an Ensemble Darkhorse like he was, and I feel reasonably certain could manage Piett's trademark terrified competence.
Aaaaand, on to memes.
Leia Skywalker

Summer Glau
Because why not?

Obi-Wan Kenobi (young)
Kate Winslet

on 2011-08-14 01:37 am (UTC)I would be open for suggestions about Han! I really couldn't think of anyone until she popped into my head.

on 2011-08-14 01:47 am (UTC)what about milla jovovich? she can do both cocky and swagger with aplomb. as alice in resident evil she both kicks ass and flies a plane! she might be a bit too old, though, since she's my age. (and how depressing was it to write that sentence?)

on 2011-08-15 05:53 am (UTC)Re: That Sentence -- heeeeeh. But Han is supposed to be around thirty and Ford was a bit older, so I think she'd be fine. It'd be cool to have an awesome thirty-something space pirate lady.
