general update + meme
Jul. 3rd, 2011 11:10 amI have ... a lot to write: Revenge, by far the more epic of my au_bigbang fics, only squeaked past at 12k, I have to critique two chapters for class, finish Lucy (Season 1!), and I have a couple of fifty themes bouncing around my hard drive. And I have a few posts I've been thinking about too - Luke and Leia are fundamentally pretty similar; why I'd love to see Darcy/Fitzwilliam; how being asexual doesn't, in my experience, get easier over time and in some ways gets much worse; and Black family headcanon.
But then I saw all these awesome thirty days memes, and thought they looked fun and amazing, but I never actually finished the one I was working on! So I'd better do that.

Okay, except for his Sherlock reviews, and that's only because "not interested in relationships = gay!" thing makes me ... annoyed. Sherlock is one of the only characters that the actor and to some degree the writers have explicitly identified as asexual. Do you know how many of those we have? Yeah, like two. It's one thing to see characters I personally interpret as ace portrayed (either in fic or meta) as sexual or even hypersexual. Irritating, but when they're all but explicitly asexual, it crosses over into -- extreme discomfort.

Also taking a new Guild Wars character, who might maybe be a warrior-monk inspired by the Once Upon A Time verse and named Lucy Starkiller because I am that subtle, to the level cap without leaving the tutorial zone. It goes towards the Guild Wars 2 awards and I desperately need a rainbow jellyfish.

I begged the psychology of women prof to let me into her course, and she's like "you're a senior and your class got cancelled after the freshmen had signed up? ALL RIGHT THEN." Yay for awesome profs! Then I discovered the heckyeahlukeskywalker tumblr and I seem to have somehow lost about five hours.

Mar. 22nd, 2011 04:30 pmI'm on vacation! Freedom, finally -- which mostly seems to involve babysitting my nephew Luke, but it's still good. And Luke is a tiny golden-haired mass of adorableness, anyway, as long as he's not left alone for a single moment.
Also, my mother and I celebrated my liberty by watching Eclipse. I'd already read it, so I fully expected lulz, but it was even better than I'd hoped. Even Mother, who is significantly more positive about the whole Twilight thing than I am, snickered through about half. Also, she apparently had blocked Breaking Dawn from her memory, so she made me tell her what happened in it. Everything that happened. I might have enjoyed that more than I should. ("So the death baby breaks her ribs and she guzzles blood from a sippy-cup -" "What?")

ace manifesto, of sorts (Day 6)
Mar. 20th, 2011 04:19 pmAwhile back, I mentioned writing an ace manifesto for Darcy, because (1) it struck me that I'd mostly written and therefore read him that way, (2) the assumption that he's this super-macho ultra-heterosexual manly man has always annoyed me, and (3) the assumption that all characters are straight and sexual until proven otherwise annoys me even more. I didn't actually do it, because strangers scare me and also, I've been busy writing research papers and I was rather meta'd out for a bit there.
However, I, uh, may have written have written it in fic form. And by "may," I mean that I don't clearly remember writing it, but hey look, what's this on my hard drive? I suspect it was very late and I was very sleepy, given that the awe-inspiring title was "acemanifesto_fic (Darcy)," but in any case, here it is.

Anyway, happy twenty-fifth to me! Happy 2055th deathday to Julius Caesar! Happy Pelennor Day to my Tolkien friends! Happy ides of March to everyone! And thanks, all of you who sent me wishes, told me to WRITE MOAR or called me an ebil cupcake, because it made everything that much better.
