I was playing Guild Wars with my mother, and she was deeply impressed that my legendary defender of Ascalon Mesmer managed to survive a tough battle despite being a fragile spellcaster left to fight alone after everyone else died.
Mother: She’s such a good character!
Me: Thanks!
Dad: Well … she is a legendary defender of Ascalon, after all.
Me: :D :D :D Tagged: #it's been days and i'm still thrilled haha
Yes! I love GW2, but I have a particularly soft spot in my heart for the original and still really enjoy playing it. The skill system can be a bit overwhelming, but it’s fun to have that much freedom + individualized instances and hero companions and everything. Also, Mesmer is my favorite class, so fabulous costumes, too :D :D :D
The game is 15 years old, so I wouldn’t assume anyone cares, but the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title I just got requires that you reach the maximum level for the entire game (20) in the tutorial zone, in which the highest level creature for most of the zones is level 5, and in any zone is four level 10 bosses.
You can get quests that spawn higher level creatures, but only at level 10, and only once a day. Also, they only scale up every few levels. I’ve been intermittently working on it for months and didn’t even try for years, since I’m honestly not very good at games, though I love them.
So getting it at last is pretty exciting for me :D
In honor of finally!!! getting the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title after fiFTEEN YEARS, a thing for my favorite location in any video game ever: pre-Searing Ascalon from Guild Wars: Prophecies.
Never forgive, never forget.

I know it’s a 15-y-o game that most people don’t care about any more, but I am so close to getting Legendary Defender of Ascalon in Prophecies for the first time ever. !!!!!
Tagged: #and i almost clicked the wrong person and left after ALL THIS #but anyway #i decided to start going for it in ... may i think #and it takes so much! esp when you don't have the time for serious grinding! but i've never done it and i have so many ascalon feelings ... #and now i only have one level to go if i can just manage one more
My dad has been complaining about Guild Wars 2 not being the original Guild Wars for … like, seven years, and in the course of a conversation about it, announced that he wants to get the new GW2 expansion for the whole family when it comes out.
me: I’d love it, but … ?
dad: I want to support ArenaNet.
me: ?????
dad: So that they keep running GW1!
me: …ah. Tagged: #aedf;addk i love prophecies too #but there is something purely and unswervingly dad-ish about his devotion that i can't quite aspire to #(i'm a weakling who likes being able to jump :P)

Anyway, I’ve got multiple things to put off, so I loaded the old Guild Wars (Prophecies) game from 2005 and … :’)
Tagged: #tumblr is stretching the screenshot so it looks weird #but i love the costumes and colors and everything #that you can get in the game #and she's doing legendary defender of ascalon so she has exactly two costume options #but i love them both!
I kind of love whoever it is on f_fa who keeps periodically bringing up Kormir and how gamer bro assholes whined about her ascension (and still do), but actually she's really cool. The anon isn't me, but I a) agree and b) appreciate that there's some random GW1 player out there going out of their way to bring up Kormir on f_fa and defend her in 2023, even though I'm pretty sure most of meme has no idea who they're talking about.
I was thinking about this because I'm kind of annoyed with all the "surprise! the revered gods are actually sketchy af" twists in fantasy media (despite really enjoying my oblivious cleric of Mystra in BG3). GW2 definitely threw several of the GW1 human gods under the bus as part of its handling of humanity, IMO (most notably Balthazar) but I doubt it'll ever fully happen with Kormir in particular, given how much effort was put into her heroic ascension to godhood back in Guild Wars: Nightfall. And I'd just checked meme for the first time in months and seen someone bringing up Kormir again, so ... <3
I'm careful with money - I usually don't even buy lunch when I'm in Portland all day. But apparently all those skipped meals counted for something, because I had way more money in my account then I expected. So I looked at my Guild Wars 2 e-mail, and then at my account, and then at the GW2 pre-order, and decided that I needed it in my life. GW2 > lunch!
And then...whatever, I still have seven thousand dollars left over, I think I can afford thirty-five dollars. So now I have my paid dw account back. ICONS, GLORIOUS ICONS.
I'm now ... ten days behind on the meme? Ack, university. Also taking a new Guild Wars character, who might maybe be a warrior-monk inspired by the Once Upon A Timeverse and named Lucy Starkiller because I am that subtle, to the level cap without leaving the tutorial zone. It goes towards the Guild Wars 2 awards and I desperately need a rainbow jellyfish.
