Ha, two days instead of six months. I feel so accomplished. Warning for talking about things I dislike about the prequels, though. (I'm starting to feel this is a thing that needs to be warned for.)
This is more like part 12b, as I'm awake now and just continuing beyond the five minutes I managed to cover last time, but—anyway.
I thought it'd been awhile since I did one of these, so I glanced back and...over six months. WTF, Elizabeth. In my defense, my DVD was non-functioning for most of that time and only got repaired about two weeks ago. But I'm still side-eyeing myself over my own comment from last time: I'm just hoping I actually finish them -- for ANH anyway -- before I turn twenty-six, heh.
I'm behind on my memes and ... I'm not doing them today, either. But I do have the next chunk of my scene-by-scene rewatching of Star Wars, aka A New Hope. So here we go, SW (and TV Tropes)!
This one mostly covers filler (of sorts), but I hope to actually get the next section done before another term passes. Anyway: as almost always, be warned for TV Tropes, and let's go!
Otherwise known as the part wherein we find that Tarkin's death was quicker than he deserves, Leia kicks ass, Vader did not blow up Alderaan, and I theorise about the Force. Warning for TV Tropes, per the usual, though not many.
This has become more a close reading (with TV Tropes and the occasional picture) than anything else -- if wasn't already that from the beginning. Meh, whatever. That works too. It may even be useful than pure backstory-hunting for the au_bb. Especially if I do The Adventures of Lucy Skywalker -- I'll want to have looked very closely at the entire OT, and this is the point where things would start changing. There is no way Han would react to Lucy the way he does Luke.
Anyway, back to Tatooine, everyone's favourite Crapsack World.
There wasn't enough background stuff in this section for a list, so I mostly just went with meandering commentary. There are, however, pictures. And TV Tropes!
My rant about incomes in P&P actually cropped up in a DWG discussion. The version posted at dreamwidth, of all places -- I haven't, ah, noticed many from the Austen contingent over [t]here. Apparently I have lurkers or something? I don't know, but they were very nice about it (and not in a Cult of Nice way, just normal-nice).
Back to Star Wars, I got through the second half of Obi-Wan's expositioniad. (Next stop, the Death Star.) Warning for TV Tropes and massive fanwanking.
City of Heroes is not really my thing, since I've never been into superheroes or comics, and I tend to prefer strategy games to RPGs anyway (Alpha Centauri FTW!). However, they just came out with a new release and it's awesome.
Back to actual Star Wars, I've watched the next twenty-five minutes or so. Again, my running commentary turned out to be ridiculously long-winded, so (again) I tried to sum up my conclusions about what background we see in this part. Also again, TV Tropes.
Per this resolution, I'm re-watching A New Hope to try and see what the original background looked like. I've gone over about the first fifteen minutes, and jotted down every thought or question that crosses my mind as I do it. Of course that's a bit random and scattered, so here are the main points.
