I kind of hope Michele Bachmann wins the nomination + picspam

This year's presidential race was looking pretty boring. I mean, I do like the president and not only because I grew up under Bush OMG, but exciting he is not, and Mitt Romney? C'mon. And I don't need to hear any speeches to know who I'm voting for, because I'd sooner cut my wrists than vote for a modern-day Republican, so I was all "meh" about it. But Bachmann's awful goes so far that even when she says things that are personally offensive to me, I can't bring myself to be offended because it's so ludicrous and I just laugh instead. It's like So Bad It's Good for politics.

Besides, I very much doubt that she can beat Obama, while Romney might have a fighting chance. So I hope she wins it on those grounds, too.

My stepfather considered registering as a Republican just to nominate her. I'll admit, I laughed, though I'm such a staunch Democrat that I suspect my brain would spontaneously explode if I tried.

The cover to Splinter of the Mind's Eye, because it's gorgeous, and I have a strange affection for it. Traumatized!Leia and cunning!Luke ftw! Also the requisite lolcest, because I can't even take it seriously.



This one is kind of random, but I like that (1) Luke and Leia are the dominant figures just like in the movie (2) the characters actually look like they do in the movie, and (3) why yes that does include Leia's full length robe and round cheeks. Also, Vader's lightsaber is a hair away from taking off Leia's arm. How ... strangely suitable.

I don't even like the PT, but - baby Vader! I really like how he's Vader and has all the Vader paraphernalia, and all the scarring we saw in ROTJ, but he's clearly still a young strangely attractive man. And he's watching a hologram of Padmé ... wait, isn't that her wedding dress? OMG, he's watching his wedding.

First: feel free to tell me right out if you would like me to stop commenting on old threads/posts. Because, man, I'm wanting to check in with you that my squee has not become annoying!

But I am loving on so many of the pictures in this, in particular the one where baby!Vader is looking at his wedding pictures. (This pic also made me, at last, understand the physical attractions of Vader, as opposed to Anakin.)

And Luke with the red 'saber and Vader with the blue is making me think of an AU where Padme was Palpatine's political protege, and Obi-wan felt compelled to stay loyal to whatever-it-was-that-the-Republic-was, and that's how the duel came about, and poor Luke has been raised by Mama and Uncle Obi-wan and Grampa Sidious Palpatine, and Anakin has been skulking in obscurity.... Oh, dear.

The Ewok BBQ... I think what really makes this one for me is imagining Vader (i.e. he-who-was-Anakin) whistling. It's just so wrong it turns around and becomes right.

For some reason, the combination of finding a Mara picture on your journal and various acemeta I've stumbled over makes me want a queerplatonic version of Luke/Mara.

Also, the Skywalker family pictures (especially the Anakin-and-Luke ones--- OMG, baby!Luke with his papa!) and so many of the Luke-and-Leia pictures are made of win!

I love comments on my old posts! And since I fairly recently got on the jedi_news watchlist over at lj, I'm fairly used to it anyway. Squee away!

Baby Vader looking at the wedding pictures was probably my favourite too. And I honestly never thought that Vader at any point could be attractive, but ... I kind of get it. Though I still can't see him with anyone. (But then, Anakin is demi-with-Padmé in my head, so maybe that's it.)

Oh dear indeed! But given Luke's personality, I actually tend to think that, raised together, he'd be more likely to be Mama's little protégé than Leia's (she tends pretty firmly towards BURN KILL DESTROY where Luke does a lot more placating -- but he's quite capable of ultimatums and unstoppable rage, too), so I can totally see him as a creepy Sith prodigy. Poor everyone. :(

Queerplatonic Luke/Mara would actually be really interesting. In my head, Luke is solidly locked into a queerplatonic OT3 thingy with Han and Leia, so I wouldn't do it myself -- but I'd like to see it!

I am... all over the place on whether Vader would ever take up with anyone after Padme (even assuming that the whole "major disabilities + probable chronic pain" thing didn't preclude him even being physically interested/able); on the one hand I think "Padmesexual" is probably the most likely interpretation of him, lol; on the other, I can see lots of different headspaces for him at that point, and some of them do allow for the possibility. But I do love him looking at his wedding pictures! *sobsniff*

Yeah, Luke and Leia as creepy Sith prodigies... (and, okay, I think I've said before that I always imagine wee!Leia just wrapping Sidious around her finger even while he's turning her Dark. *snort*) And, yeah, "poor everyone" pretty much covers it!

The acemeta... I think was on fialleril's journal, which was the first place that I saw Anakin described as "Padmesexual", IIRC!

I totally can see Luke/Leia/Han as a queerplatonic OT3! Mara has just so much built herself into my headcanon though that I am now intrigued by the notion of them as qp.

Re: Vader -- I've seen all these (usually ~dark and edgy~) stories where he has, like, a harem and casually exploits women in addition to hunting down Jedi, which is a bit wtf? for me. Add in his pretty thoroughly established Padmésexuality, and it's incredibly jarring. Especially in ones where Padmé is still alive (one of the only Lady Vader stories I ever liked was constantly frustrating for that reason -- she was alive, he knew she was alive, and he was having all these torrid affairs um no). And I can't see him having a functional relationship with anyone at that point, even if he had it in him to look at anyone but Padmé. So -- yeah, that's a headspace I really can't see (though I suspect it would annoy me less if I didn't keep finding it gaaaah).

Re: Leia and Palpatine -- heeeeh! I can't see her doing it on purpose, really? Leia is intensely straightforward, I think. But I can totally see him finding her quite delightful (I do think he's quite capable of simply liking people, though perhaps not attachment per se). Two powerful, clever, fearless Sith prodigies probably would be endearing.

Oh, fialleril! Yeah, hers is awesome -- I liked her post on ace!Obi-Wan, too.

Ahhh. My headcanon is entirely EU-free (and I don't especially like or dislike Mara), so I don't have any particular investment there, but it definitely could be interesting.
