1) Hey, is anyone having trouble getting Tumblr to load? My computer is loading other sites (...at varying speeds), but Tumblr hasn't worked for hours.
2) Youtube keeps giving me Steven Universe AU scenario vids, and the most common are probably AUs where Steven's mother was one of the other Diamonds, which is ... well, common, but kind of mind-bending anyway. I'm not really into it tbh, but the art tends to show alternate!Rose as simply whatever other Diamond she happens to be in that 'verse, and I got to thinking ... it's kind of impressive that Pink managed to keep her gem turned inwards in the act of giving up her form. Maybe it's been done (I've never read SU fic), but what if she didn't manage it and Steven is born with her diamond clearly apparent?
There'd be the !!!!!!! that the Crystal Gems feel in canon over the revelation, but also, she's only just gone—and of course, Pearl already knew. I'm guessing Greg wouldn't even know what it means—or maybe he would (I can't remember how much he knows of the war tbh). But if they knew Steven was a quasi-diamond all along ... idk, I just think it'd be interesting in terms of how they respond (in general), how they deal with it wrt Steven himself, how Pearl's freedom from keeping the secret affects things/her, and Steven's own feelings, depending on how much he knows. If he knows much of anything, I imagine he'd be even more self-conscious about his apparent lack of abilities early on, for one. And his complicated feelings about Pink might evolve more gradually without her secret being a dramatic revelation. And Blue and Yellow Diamond would respond quite differently as soon as they saw him. Etc etc.
