Speaking of resurrecting old discourse ... SW vs ST!
I occasionally still see SW vs ST comparisons, usually from ST fans, and it's aggravating for a lot of reasons as a fan primarily of SW. But honestly, it's not like I have any substantive reasons for preferring SW. I just like fantasy better than sci-fi and SW (at least the main films) pings the sprawling epic fantasy-loving part of my brain in a way that ST never quite does (despite my liking a lot of it!). My best friend is the opposite; he loves both, but sci-fi is his beloved and ST hits that in a way that much of SW doesn't quite manage.
The genre division is imprecise at the best of times and neither SW nor ST is exactly rigid in its approach to genre, but still, SW and ST have very different vibes for me genre-wise that make the comparisons pretty weird. IDK, everyone can do their thing, but I'm going to sit in my corner having feelings about space wizard family drama and the magical fabric of the cosmos.
