I kind of want to search for Luke and Anakin or Luke and Leia fic, since it's been a long time since I read any and I love those relationships ... but also, I intensely dislike a lot of takes on them, esp on Luke, who is my #1 SW fave. The other relationship I'm invested in, of course, is Jyn/Cassian, and occasionally I think it'd be cool to find something where those interests intersect ... but even though I like a ton of Jyn/Cassian fic in its own right, I bounced so hard off of the fandom's soft, sunny, pure-of-heart take on Luke that I don't trust many writers from the fandom with him, apart from my friends.
I remember multiple fics suggesting that uncomplicatedly shiny heroes like Luke just wouldn't understand basically good people having shadowy sides to their personalities and I was just ... AGHGHHHHHHHH WHAT RETURN OF THE JEDI DID YOU WATCH???? Luke spends 3/4 of the movie on a knife's edge, declares "you can profit by this or be destroyed," Force-chokes people in his way, completely loses his shit to the accompaniment of a mournful choir, has to literally throw his weapon away to overcome his basic inclinations, and is more than capable of grasping that a lot of wrongdoing can accompany goodness (*cough*ANAKIN*cough*). I don't know where this bizarre, boring, one-note take on him even comes from, and I find it particularly irritating because it denies so much of his arc and struggles, esp as they're connected to Anakin. (Luke has a spirit vision of his head inside his father's helmet after immediately defaulting to violence and this is too subtle.)
ANYWAY. I crave more Luke content but so much is so flat and bland and insulting to his character arc that I haven't read any in ages. I guess I can be the change I want to see etc, but meh, sometimes it's kind of like wanting food you didn't make yourself? Sometimes I read my stuff for fun, since it is all catered to me, but there's always an editorial part of my brain going and it's just ... not the same.
