Heh, when I had to describe my theoretical orientation towards literature in my prospectus, I settled on "reluctant historicist"—I am staunchly against reducing literature to historical documents or subordinating literary understanding to the historical, but historical context is so important and illuminating, especially the further you go back. So I think they're intrinsically tied together, even if I'm not a historian :)
