ita: Gilbert Markham is a total dick. The correct response to hearing a woman's story of trauma and domestic violence is not to narcissistically imagine how much she must luuuuurve having you as a savior, or to reflect that you liked the parts where she was getting whaled on better than the parts where she thought she might be happy with someone other than yourself.
Um. I seem to have FEELINGS about this. And a seminar paper/dissertation chapter, if I ever find a classroom to write it for!
