I definitely agree on both fronts! And yeah, they are so incredibly queer in terms of sexuality and romance and specifically each other that it's understandable that it eclipses the gender fuckery, but both (though especially Kirk) are so overwhelmingly identified w/ masculinity and maleness despite the much more complicated degree of gender fuckery and performance going on in the show that I have a lot of fun thinking about it and ways to bring it out.
