OMG, it has taken me so long to get back to this (today is apparently my day of catching up on commenting). And oh, yeah, I did not pick up in the meaning of "their eyes are blue" the first time I read it. But the subtext only makes it better. And, yes, I love that holding-back-the-darkness-by-owning-it thing with her. And the darkness in this instance being political as much as mystical if not more so. Wonderful. (And she's protecting her father from the darkness as much as her brother!!!!! D'AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!)
