Whoops, radio silence

 I've been on Tumblr (still hideously addictive, despite working even less well than usual), but not doing much ... productive isn't really the word I want to use for "how I spend my free time on the Internet," so, um--not doing much substantive. Finals and then Christmas!

ANYWAY. STAR WARS!!!!!!!

I'm going to watch it properly in the IMAX with my best friend on Tuesday, but guys, I'm thrilled. 

In an "already developing pet peeves" way, of course. But still!!!! excited!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to have to watch it, like, five times. a;dfkljk;fngmf

And honestly, the #1 thing I'm aggravated about is "but shouldn't we get away from the Skywalkers?" Uhh, the Anthology films are that-away, y'all. The beating heart of the main films is family, specifically the Skywalkers' families (natural or discovered! or both! but it's the Skywalker show). They always have been, always will be. The faster you come to terms with that, the happier you'll be.

(Cue my periodic bewildered realization that people watch SW for something other than Skywalker shenanigans! But I'm that person who fast-forwards past the space battle above Endor as well as the Ewoks to get back to Luke and Anakin.)

The #2 thing is how incredibly awful fandom is already being over Rey/Kylo Ren. And I really like Rey/Finn, but... God, it's everything hero/villain shippers like, of course they're into it. It's not new, or shocking, or reason to hate perfectly nice people whose tastes aren't as ~pure~ as yours, jfc. 

On the upside, we can all agree about one thing: Rey! REY REY REY REY. REYYYYYYYYY.

QFT, my friend, QFT. I mean, I have been fortunate not to have seen a lot of awfulness in my particular fannish space, but, jeez.

I mean, for me:

1) I have not seen the movie yet, so the below is a) based on spoilers and fannish osmosis and b) subject to change with consumption of actual canon

2) I am really happy about the idea of Rey/Finn as "the" eventual canon pairing! Finn sounds like a cool guy, Rey sounds awesome, it sounds like the ship is being handled awesomely, yay interracial couple being awesome all up in my Star Wars movies, it's all good.

3) That said, one of the reasons I am perfectly happy for them being the canon pairing is so that I can feel free to grab my seat on the Express Fandom Hellbus over to where the SS Rey/Kylo Ren is docked, on which I have booked a first-class cabin, thank you very much. LOL and I will avoid feelingsdumping about my brand-new shiny OTP all over your journal but OMG I love them.

Both of us having seen it properly, I think we're in the same boat, haha. I love Rey/Finn onscreen (though I also like Finn/Poe lol that was AMAZING) and Daisy Ridley's duet with Oscar Isaac gave me Rey/Poe feelings despite a grand total of 0 interactions, but I'm almost too happy with those to be fannish about them. Meanwhile the second time around, "Don't be afraid. I feel it, too" was like catnip injected straight into the id.

I'm cool with a family thing or a romantic thing (*cough*orboth), but THAT'S A THING RIGHT THERE, IT SURE IS A THING.

*flails at your icon* OMG TOO PERFECT. COME ON, SKYWALKERS HAVING GENETIC-SEXUAL-ATTRACTION-FORCE-BOND FEELS FOR EACH OTHER when they meet up all unknowing they're related is just A THING. THEY DO THAT.

OMG, "DON'T BE AFRAID, I FEEL IT TOO" catnip and heroin and crack and YES RIGHT IN THE ID, HELLOTP. And, I said it on my journal, but OMG, his whole little emotional striptease for her when he was supposed to be interrogating her! All the "lonely, afraid to leave, lying awake and miserable at night" business = SHINY MIRROR, BEN HONEY. It is no wonder she got into his head because he was practically laying out the welcome mat there.

Finn/Poe is adorbs and I cheerlead for them from the sidelines! But I am strictly a spectator-fan about them. (Okay, NGL, I kind of want all the fic where Finn and Poe are an adorbs and sane and healthy couple who are looking on in horrified bafflement at WTF their BFF Rey is playing with her hot-fucked-up proto-darklord of a cousin. SNERK.)
