politics (duh)

I'm watching an Elizabeth Warren speech that absolutely hits what it means to be a Democrat, and why I've been proud to support the party—not just grit my teeth and vote for the lesser evil, but support it—from the day I turned eighteen. It sent chills down my arms, honestly. And ... okay, I don't want her to leave the Senate. She's doing good work in the Senate, and everywhere. And pragmatically speaking, she and Hillary are probably too similar for the most effective team-up.

But I can't deny that there's a part of my soul itching for an Elizabeth Warren v. Newt Gingrich vice presidential debate.

I'm also pretty sure that if Hillary Clinton at last develops the ability to shoot lasers from her eyes, it'll be over the prospect of Newt Gingrich within a breath of the presidency.

Aaaaand I keep hearing people say that she took a leaf out of Trump's book in her comprehensive attack on him. What? What????

Look. Marco Rubio descending to harsh attacks and sexual mudslinging was taking a leaf out of Trump's book. A politician sharply criticizing her (utterly contemptible) opponent in a careful, detailed speech with the occasional barbed aside is ... business as usual? And, you know, there is someone who has been sharply criticizing Trump in careful, detailed speeches with barbed asides. In style and structure (and content, obviously) that speech was vastly, vastly more like what Elizabeth Warren has been doing than anything remotely akin to Trump's diatribes.

But sure, a Democratic former senator obviously took inspiration for a dignified speech from her crass opponent rather than the current Democratic senator doing the same thing.
