Bohemian Rhapsody (critical, um, ambivalence aside) raked in quite a few Oscar noms! Including a very deserved one for Rami Malek.

(I had mixed opinions about it, but ultimately I couldn't help but settle into sheer enjoyment. I'd just seen Aquaman, which was nice but Not For Me apart from Nicole Kidman, so I got a lot of pleasure out of seeing something that felt like it was directed at people like me.)

I'm poring over P&P for the Pemberley fic, since the idea is expanding on moment by moment—that is, a line and a half in P&P can become two pages in the fic, or whatnot. 

Anyway, there are a lot of little details I'd forgotten! It is a really involved description for Austen. But I think my favourite part is where Mr Gardiner and Darcy wander off to check out a plant. JRR Tolkien seal of approval!

They all exclaimed at the sight, and Mr Gardiner snatched up one of the nearer flowers and stuck it into the little bunch of blossoms on Mrs Gardiner’s hat.

“There,” he said. “Now you have a real one.”

Mrs Gardiner shook her head, but both ladies laughed. Elizabeth, nevertheless, felt a faint melancholy as they continued. She could not imagine a more happily suited couple—and to think that only by sheer chance had their paths crossed at all! How many others could expect their good fortune?
