anghraine: noatak/amon from legend of korra accidentally waterbending (noatak (waterbending))
I reblogged a gifset of Amon leaping through the snow. The animation is interesting (and excellent, as ever in B1): the bulk of the snow almost seems to part for him as he jumps through, and there's a little swirl of snow around him as he does it. I said:

Why, Amon, it almost looks like you're waterbending!

Nah, it couldn't be.

(Note: also, this looks deeply cool.)

I reblogged a post I made in July of 2012:

On Noatak and Tarrlok’s last words to each other as children—

They totally shaped each other’s lives at that moment. Noatak broke down and abandoned his downtrodden brother, ignoring his pleas—then went on to reinvent himself as defender of the downtrodden. Tarrlok broke down and was condemned by his brother as a weakling—then went on to reinvent himself as a heroic pillar of strength. And neither of them were quite what they were pretending to be.

…That, incidentally, makes it pretty easy to see why Noatak, who’d had such grand aspirations for himself and non-benders, was content enough to run off with his little brother. Non-benders were always standing in for Tarrlok, anyway. Protecting them probably made up, in some small way, for failing to save his brother, all the more because Tarrlok himself turned out so badly after his departure. Sure, it didn’t work, but in the end it was him and Tarrlok, together again, and free. That was what he wanted, really.

In response to this post, an anon said:

Admittedly, the phrase "cooking your own face" perfectly explains why Noatak shouldn't burn his face. Everything else makes sense, but that one phrase really sticks out to me.

I replied:

LOL, it does, rather.

An anon asked:

Do you think any of the Equalists ever suggested taking direct action against Tarrlok, up to and including straight up killing him? If so, what would Noatak's reaction be, both as Amon, and as his true self?

I replied:

It’s hard to imagine that someone wouldn’t have suggested taking direct action against Tarrlok, given everything he did. I’m not sure if people were really in the habit of making suggestions to Amon himself, but at the least, I think there’d be Something Must Be Done talk that would reach his ears.
