You know, I honestly hadn’t thought of that! But yes, it’s very true—Shmi, Padmé, and now Lucy occupy a vast amount of space in his psyche.

[ETA 8/26/2021: even though I dislike the prequels more than not, I actually really like bringing them into fic and had a lot of fun trying to weave them together in this one.]

Vader’s respirator cycled once, then twice, then three times. At last, he said,
“Obi-Wan never told you about Padmé?”
