anghraine: elizabeth and darcy responding to their engagement in "austen's pride" (darcy and elizabeth (proposal))

Yes, I'm crossposting a sigh.

I deeply crave Darcy/Elizabeth fic right now (more than usual!), but like ... Darcy/Elizabeth fic within the general vicinity of my own interpretations, which means there are approximately nine fics that fit them and don't include NOPE content, all of which I have read countless times.

(Nope content: sexy sophisticated alpha male Darcy, hyper-aggressive Elizabeth, virtually all Colonel Fitzwilliam ships with P&P characters unless it's both Elizabeth and Darcy *cough* where is it, Jane morphing into a Strong Female as if she weren't already, I could go on, gosh why can't I find fic.)

Anyway. I have a mighty craving—hence writing it. But I'm so far from the stage of the novel (post-Lydiagate canon or AU) that I actually want to read about. *triple sigh*

(No, I haven't changed at all since I was a resident Judgy McJudgerperson in centralized Austen fandom.)

Hah, I'll drink to that. I know that many interpretations are valid, but all those other people are DOING IT WRONG, this character I don't even like would NEVER (applies to many fandoms)

Oh man, do I ever know that feeling of wanting to read something but not being able to find anything that meets your specifications. (In which case I usually end up grumpily skimming stories that aren't *quite* wrong but aren't right for me either.) I'd be very interested in which P&P stories you do recommend, though - there's so much of it out there that I gave up on looking for the good stuff pretty quickly.

ALSO, I had never considered LIzzy/Darcy/Fitzwilliam, but now I'm definitely intrigued!

Wanting to read fic that you would have to write yourself is peak reader angst. I deeply relate in many fandoms.

My nopes in P&P fic are strongest for Mary and Anne de Bourgh. Both of whom get taken wildly out of character and context to become blatant self inserts. (All Anne needs is to get away from her mother to become a Modern Interesting Strong Woman with no health problems whatsoever! which, even if she doesn't actually have any real health problems and it's all her mother's overbearing nature and the horrors of 18th Century medicine, there would still be lasting physical and mental scars from it.)

It's a published series now, but have you read A Constant Love by Sophie Turner? It's a sequel and beautifully done. The sequel, A Change of Legacies, does veer into drama (there's an extended 'what if?' dream sequence) but ACL is my favourite canon-compliant fic.
