Pettiness about P&P adaptations

I have approximately a million reservations about the 2005 P&P, but I've been inclined to let other people criticize it, mostly because I was super active in Austen fandom when it came out and I thought the handwringing from many 1995 stans over it was utterly ridiculous. Anyway, I just came over an article about it from about then that was going on about how it might have been financially successful enough but it just didn't have the committed fanbase of the 1995 and would be forgotten in time blahblahblah.

Meanwhile, fifteen years later, my dash is covered in P&P2005 gifsets and my other fandoms have P&P fusions that use the film's dialogue, it gets misquoted as Austen all the time, I still people shrieking about HANDS!!!! etc etc. And some of that can be annoying, but it certainly isn't the marker of some forgettable flash in the pan that would inevitably fade before the rightful glory of the One True Adaptation.

For me its definitely 2005 version, all the way. The main reason is the lighting! The BBC version had cool and sedate lighting and the 2005's stunning and glorious colors were just intoxicating. The rising light of dawn at the end? The sunsets? The colors at the ball? The colors when they were at Darcy's house? I just. I need to rewatch again, frankly.

I also just love the actors better as well. *shrugs*
