I thought the mass of deleted and inactive Tumblr blogs was disturbing when I got into LOK fandom again, but although there are less of them in SW fandom, it's even more unsettling that there are as many as there are. This is an absolutely massive fandom, it's the fandom that got me most of my own followers, and it's the one that I went to Tumblr for in the first place. And while it's not the desert that some of my old fandoms have become, there are still a wide variety of blogs that have just vanished.

Maybe some of it is the effect of time, or shifting to TV, or a lessening of good will in the wake of the ST, or less epic SW stories in general, or fandoms becoming increasingly transient. But mostly it seems like Tumblr is, indeed, dying. For all its many problems and flaws ... :\

Yes, I really do think the "tumblr is alive and well" voices protest too much :/

Yeah, I think some people talk of it as if it's already gone and I get the resistance to that, but it's so much slower and quieter than it was that it does feel like the days are numbered, and even the big fandoms seem at least half-deserted there.

With the Post+, monetizing tumblr, etc going around, I'm being outright cautious about it. And have emptied my queue, started only reblogging instantly for the most part for now.

But then again, I have all but left SW because the content has shifted heavily to Disney+ works, and ... it's cute, but not my cuppa?

I guess the odd thing for me is that so many people not only fell out of ye olde SW fandom (that's the way of all fandoms, even megafandoms like SW), but are just completely gone from Tumblr itself. I suspect most of them are still around in the broader sense and just shifted to other platforms in the various exoduses.

But yeah, the Post+ etc is pretty much "red alert" for me.

Yeah, it def seems dead to me. God I wish we had a popular successor to LJ. DW, much as I love it, lacks the photo functionality to do that, especially compared to others.

Right. My activity bar is still active enough when I post things, but nothing like the old days, and it's hard to see things turning around. And yeah, most social media platforms have pretty bad photo functionality compared to Tumblr, but DW's is a pain to use and formatting doesn't work well. My ideal platform would be a fusion of Tumblr and Dreamwidth, basically, but it's hard to see it taking off in these times. Though Discord and Twitter are also inconvenient yet apparently have taken off as fandom spaces, so ... :\
