I was watching some depressing writing advice videos (obviously the best choice right now), and every time someone's like ... okay, having a pre-existing platform doesn't ensure anything, but it can help, I think for about two seconds about connecting my fandom identity and writing pseudonym. I'm not a BNF by any means, but maybe something is better than nothing?

(More seriously, I do very genuinely appreciate the people who are willing to read my writing no matter where it takes me, or who show interest in my vague original work rambles, and such. And there are individual people I trust enough to tell should anything go anywhere. Besides, it's not like I'm ~ashamed of my fandom history as such, so if some people figure it out, oh well. But at the same time, I don't really want everything I've thought and written from age 17 following me everywhere I go. So yeah, not worth it, even if more people who follow me were interested in my non-fandom projects.)

There's a temptation whenever someone's like "oh, I'd love to read your novel" but ... not worth it.

I have a friend who linked her RL and fandom identities with her first book and her recommendation has always been: no, don't do it. Good call.

Yeah, I've seen authors I respect say that they write fanfic but will never, ever tell who they are on AO3, and it's like ... yeah, seems reasonable.
