Teaching is occasionally terrifying, because it’s like … I can just say things? And people are taking down notes?

Maybe it's because I was biting back my full opinions on psychoanalytic theory the whole time I was teaching it on Friday, but I didn't have to! It's a lot more glaring than when I taught 18th-century literature because I felt reasonably confident then. Like, LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT!!! feels very different than navigating DOTA and reader-response etc.

[ETA 10/16/21: This was a fairly offhand post, but I increasingly feel that I'm not meant for teaching at all. MEH.]

I know this post is a year and a half old, but I'm teaching for the first time this semester and I really, really feel that "Oh, god, you're taking notes on this stuff that's just coming out of my mouth" feeling.
