Getting the emails for both a) all students and b) grad students specifically is kind of a trip, because the ones for students are like ‘we’re here to support you in this difficult time’ and the ones for grad students are like ‘NO SLACKING JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE AT HOME, PRODUCTIVITY IS ALL’

Also love the ones that are like "We care about your mental health :) Here are 5 more extremely urgent tasks that may cripple your future career if you don't take care of them immediately. Remember self-care!"

This is taking me back to the days of the LJ comms for ranting about academia. Because... yeah, grad students and undergrad students are handled so differently, and it shows, on so many levels.

Yeah... the difference is just... grad students, at best the professors are training their future colleagues (and holding them to the standard they expect of their colleagues, which is going to vary by professors within departments). At worst, they're trying to train acolytes. And then if you're getting a fellowship/assistantship/otherwise employed by the department in which you're studying, there's at least the spirit if not necessarily the literal substance of indentured servitude in there somewhere.
