I don’t know about that, anon. I actually think the idea of becoming a strong and powerful warrior is appealing to him for its own sake. He certainly does want to fight for a better galaxy and is very intensely motivated by wanting to protect the particular people he loves (more than by anything else, I’d say), but there’s a reason why his failure in the cave takes the form it does and why that carries over into ROTJ.
