I am having a ton of fun with this chapter of LP&D—I'm about 3.5 pages in and still have some plot sequence stuff to nail down, so there's a ways to go. Normally, I'd post the excerpt I'm having fun with at Tumblr, but I don't want to spoil Catherine's opening scene. But. DW is safer and better at spoiler cuts, so:
“The honour of the acquaintance is ours, Mrs Collins,” he [Col Fitzwilliam] assured her. “When my aunt told us of the changes to our circle here, we were too eager to meet you all to wait to see you at church, and imposed upon Mr Collins to perform the introduction immediately.”
“You are very welcome here,” said Charlotte.
“Yes, indeed!” added Mr Collins. “No one could be more so, excepting your noble aunt, of course, whose kindness and affability towards us can hardly be expressed or deserved.”
Miss Darcy raised a brow and said, “Lady Catherine, no doubt, would never bestow a favour on anyone she considered unworthy.”
Mr Collins might have been cutting Lady Catherine’s meat again. With a deep bow, he said, “I find none of the blessings in my life, and they are many, so great as her ladyship’s good opinion. Pray consider yourself as welcome to this house, however humble, as to your own.”
“Thank you,” Miss Darcy said dryly.
