I've mostly hung out in the corners, too, myself, so I know I could be missing something, but as far as I can tell the biggest distinction is between aromantics and romantics, on one hand, and grey-A/demis and full asexuals, on the other. Like, you'll often see "X is a significant issue for asexuals; it mostly affects romantics, but..."
I think it's so offensive because it's rooted in that divide-and-conquer approach. We are not a loose coalition of heteroromantics, homoromantics, panromantics and aromantics; we're asexuals and sexuals don't have a right to erase that. (Especially not in a conversation that began with sexual privilege!)
I've started veering towards sheer hatred, so ... yeah. I might step back a bit.
