anghraine: darcy and elizabeth after the second proposal in the 1979 p&p (darcy and elizabeth [proposal])

Look … I love P&P like nothing else in the world, but not every vaguely antagonistic couple corresponds to Elizabeth/Darcy. This is true even when it comes to adaptations—but especially when it comes to the book.

I keep seeing ships framed as analogues to Elizabeth/Darcy, and 90% of the time it makes no sense whatsoever.

#in fairness: the elizabeth analogues sometimes vaguely work. but the darcy ones almost never do bc like #i think the thing that fandom tends to not get about darcy is that he doesn't sit around brooding over shit #he smiles a lot and when he does feel badly it's because he realizes he's behaved badly #he doesn't go around angsting in GENERAL #his past is that his parents were over-indulgent bc he was the heir and maybe kind of neglectful in a rich people way #and wickham was his dad's favourite #the tragedy!! #and of course a 'bzuh?' darcy completely transforms the ship's dynamic from d/e and it just ends up at ... no #also the elizabeth analogues only VAGUELY approach the mark but i've ranted about that before i think #i love my juggernaut carrier of a ship but its dynamics are not applicable to EVERY. SHIP. EVER.
