on 2011-09-17 05:34 am (UTC)(1) is from this interview. I definitely like the implied house-spouse, lol.
Politician!Leia is ... I like it being part of her arc, but I don't think it fits especially well after ROTJ. Because the Leia in ANH and ESB is largely a political figure, and while she's totally kickass and I have So Very Many Issues with what happened to her in ROTJ, the thing is that for the first time, she seems happy. We don't know why she left the leadership, but the Rebellion in ROTJ seems so much more structured than the ragtag Rebellion of ANH and ESB that I tend to think that had something to do with it, too. Also, IMO, every indication, IMO, is that she will become a Jedi (...before the age of fifty).
Personally, I imagine that Luke first teaches her everything she knows, and once she's mastered it, they co-lead the new Order, with Luke being in charge of teaching and clairvoyanty stuff and communing with the Force and such, and Leia in charge of administration and liaising with the government(s) and so on. (And Han keeps them fed.) So -- sort of political? But I don't think she'd function well as a cog in a normal, ponderous bureaucracy. Too much like Anakin, really, even if her intolerance is a little less immediately homicidal.

I really like that idea. In fact, irnan and I theorized about how it'd work awhile back. (Basically, he and Luke go off to fight crime and turn Bast Castle into their base and Leia eventually comes around and Han goes wherever she goes and it's a fabulous crime-fighting quartet of badassery.)

It's something I keep running against it -- either that he totally was obligated to make it the way X Fan wanted him to (duh, no), or that any criticism of his artistic choices is trying to deny his legal rights as creator. Which is such an absurd strawman that ... no. He has the right to make it, and I have the right to hate it.

I really like it too! And I definitely like that it validates fan reactions/interpretations/headcanon along with the EU.
Honourable Mention -- Wookieepedia's TPM page!
I definitely think the incompatible worldviews is what screws his head up so much. I...kind of get the feeling that the whole "no, we're supposed to love! that's what compassion is all about" was his own thing -- the way he made sense of it for himself, and maybe not exactly established dogma.
