anghraine: leia's eyes and padmé's (leia and padmé)
[personal profile] anghraine
So The Phantom Menace is out again, this time in 3-D, with a less bizarre-looking Yoda. I keep telling myself to go and see it, but haven't worked myself up to it. But after having just written nine posts about my multitude of issues with Padmé Amidala, and remembering that hey, I don't like TPM but I do like Padmé in it, it seemed a good time to picspam her.

I had a great time digging the pictures up, too, whether off of tumblr or deviantart or the depths of my hard drive. Padmé Amidala = most fabulously costumed character to exist. And not in Star Wars - in anything, ever.

I think this is her staring-tragically-out-the-window (while coming up with a cunning plan) red gown.

Ah, here with the shiny embroidery.

And full length! Whoa, it's like Sauron lives in her skirt. Cool.

Drawing of Queen Amidala - found unattributed on tumblr (feel free to let me know if you know the original artist for these, and I'll edit them in)

Padmé Amidala in her orange handmaiden disguise, under the impenetrable pseudonym of Padmé. And you thought Ben Kenobi was obvious!

Padmé and Artoo

Padmé fussing over Anakin in a particularly blatant parallel to Leia in A New Hope.

Padmé in red and gold, doing her best to make the McDonald's logo regal. And succeeding.

Against a backdrop here ... a river? IDK.

I consider this Padmé's "u mad?" look.

And the concept art!

Amidala in the same outfit in black and white, looking particularly unrecognizable (...maybe Sabé? I don't know, and apparently their mothers didn't either).

Amidala in black robes, almost as voluminous as her I Am Certainly Not Eight Months Pregnant With Twins, No Sir robes later. But this has better sleeves (just look at the lining!) and more epic hair.

Same gown, and I think powdered hair, while she plots her next move. Palpatine skipped over a very worthy apprentice.

Padmé Amidala with white danglies and swiftly diminishing patience.

The queen in the same outfit, now accompanied by her handmaidens. They remind me of the Royal Guardsmen, and it's now my headcanon that Palpatine borrowed the idea from, well, his own home planet, and that's why they're "royal" instead of "imperial."

And without the handmaidens. Wow, she looks really together here.

Amidala and the infinitely less cool Darth Maul - yes, really - by Mark Brooks (diablo2003)

Padmé in black again, combining a feather headdress, red and gold medieval and/or Leia-ish buns, and a black cowl into a single hairstyle. Props for creativity, anyway.

And here it is in full. Hm, something vaguely dinosaurish about this one.

What.

It's...not going to catch on, sweetie.

She still looks pretty hardcore, though.

Padmé skulking behind Sabé!Amidala.

Padmé is done with this bullshit.

Padmé storms her castle.

The white (and yellow and pink) celebration outfit, in profile.

Padmé at the actual ceremony.

I'm not honestly sure which outfit this concept art goes with, but it's shiny! Also, is it just me, or does concept!Padmé have blue eyes? Anakin's were originally brown - I mean, Sebastian Shaw!Anakin in the original VHS - so I suppose it makes sense. She definitely looks more like Luke/baby Mark Hamill than Natalie Portman, too (not that that's saying much).

Padmé disguised as her own guard.

And the near-full length shot. I ... really like this one. It reminds me of Leia's bounty hunter outfit.

The grey and purple packing dress. I love this one! And actually, I love Padmé in this scene - talking about politics! Telling Anakin he should stop leering at her because it makes her uncomfortable. <3

...o hai buns!

Three-quarters view of the same outfit. And nearly the same pose, but this time she has her steely face on. Yay!

Padmé, in my favourite of her outfits, with my favourite of her expressions.

The full-length version. Mweeeeeeeeeee.

(True fact: my original filename for this was "costume_porn.")

Same outfit, happier.

Padmé rocking a brown headdress.

I think this is the one she wears during that meal where she and Anakin are most definitely not flirting?

Padmé in flowing rainbow silk held up by bits of metal, and her hair turned into what looks like a giant shell. She spends the entirety of this scene looking even more gorgeous than usual.

Oh, and Anakin's there in beige robes or something. Whatever.

(He'll never have a cooler look than her until he's a six and a half foot ominously breathing red lightsaber-wielding leather-clad Inpsector Gadget-belted black armoured cyborg widower.)

See?

Oh, there she is.

The concept art!

Padmé in the black corset dress and eyeshadow. It looks a lot more Padmé-ish when she's still got the feathers on.

The concept art for this gown - it looks a bit less corset-y here.

The yellow meadow gown, Art Nouveau style (...I've probably found enough Art Nouveau to merit its own post). And oh look, white lilies.

Well, that's not significant at all.

(Found on tumblr, no attribution)

The actual dress from the back.

Heeeh, I love their faces here. They will have fearless superchildren! Oh wait.

...but her buns are gone. :(

Oh, they are there. But why is his lightsaber red?

Okay. But her expression is a bit disconcerting.

Oh, what the hell. Here they are again.

Padmé fresh out of bed.

...Mm-hmm.

The blue cloak Padmé wears on Tatooine.

I love her cloak.

Padmé's two piece white pantsuit thing.

Padmé exiting the homestead to worry.

With reason, I've got to say.

The requisite staring-into-the-distance on Tatooine. Luke, what hast thou wrought?

Concept art for Padmé's outfit in the Lars garage. Padmé herself horrifies me in the scene, but it's one of her prettiest looks.

Padmé discovering that her body guard just committed mass murder of men, women, and children. Not that he'd ever do that again, of course.

Padmé in a high collared white pantsuit, with a black blaster and her hair pulled back into pretty but convenient hair-loops. Well, that doesn't remind me of anything.

Padmé and a bazillion Jedi.

Padmé's wedding gown and ridiculously elaborate veil, which she just happened to have on hand.

...wait, what am I saying? It's Padmé. Of course she did. "And this is the one I keep just in case I need to quickly and secretly married..."

Padmé, taking the Leia buns for a new spin in an especially glamorous outfit. I don't remember this!

Oh, it's this one, right? Hmm, kind of Elizabethan.

The peacock outfit, aka the only thing in existence that doesn't flatter her. Well, she was sure to find something eventually.

Concept art for the peacock dress. I actually prefer this to the reality.

Padmé in green velvet; she reminds me a lot of Keira Knightley as Georgiana here

Wow, she looks really unhappy.

Padmé's various experiments with buns on the side of her head finally settling on next-thing-to-Leia's - just as she announces her pregnancy.

Heresy of the day: I actually like them better on Padmé. As Carrie Fisher has (repeatedly) pointed out, they don't really suit her face. She's best rocking the power braids.

See? (Though seriously, where are Leia's cheeks?)

Padmé in her Senate robes, most definitely not pregnant. Also carrying off horns, somehow.

Padmé in casualwear (...with a train), crying.

The same nightgown, I think, though she seems a bit more together here.

Padmé, the riotous curls aren't fooling anybody. We know Luke and Leia got their hair from you.

Padmé's sad, again.

Photomanip of Padmé by diebutterfliege, set to Leia's iconic (and much fanwanked) description of her as very kind and very beautiful, but sad. The choice of pictures for "kind" struck me as odd (Padmé-as-comforter would make more sense, IMO), but otherwise it's gorgeous meta-art.

Not all over the hair, I've got to say.

One of Padmé's prettiest, if least flamboyant, outfits - fuzzy blue robe and metal hairpieces.

And from the front.

Padmé on her way to Mustafar, with C-3PO. :(

Padmé and Anakin at Mustafar - from tumblr, I don't remember where.

Her braid is pretty, but depressingly normal. And I can't think leggings are comfy right now. Yeah, not thrilled with this outfit. Or with either of them in this scene. Not your finest hour, you two.

Padmé, sadfacing.

This is the one moment in that scene where I'm thinking "oh, sweetie" instead of "Leia clearly got her derailment from you."

Padmé giving birth in what appears to be a petri dish, because competent medical authorities are clearly few and far between. Seriously, that's got to be one of the worst possible positions in which to give birth, and look how pale she is. I bet she died of blood loss and they just didn't notice.

Concept art for Padmé's funeral. She always looks very young and vulnerable in the concept art, and not really like Natalie Portman - but pretty much all SW concept art is gorgeous, and this is no exception. In fact, it may be my favourite.

Padmé's actual funeral.

I was annoyed at just about everything by this point, but I still wanted to cry at this scene. No words, just the beautiful Ophelia imagery and John Williams' music and *sob*

A better look at her face.

And here's the japor snippet. :(
