I feel like writing nonproductively

a meme, grabbed from ladyhadhafang, for anyone who feels like enabling me.
Choose one or two or however many and a character/pairing and I'll try and write something for it. As always, you can ask for verses [any of those beneath the au_bigbang cut] and see what I can come up with.
1) we would all be fools to pray for justice
2) great charity, bad tactics
3) a place beyond fear
4) prayer is a dangerous business
5) trying to build a tower out of custard
6) I will not fail death
7) all things out of season
8) lit like a burning city
9) now explain why you glow in the dark
10) expect to be valued accordingly
11) such a natural, normal lethality
12) choose good actions without good knowledge
13) the confusion of mind you dub honor
14) you were born to be betrayed
15) how long have I been walking down this road?
16) any man can be kind when he is comfortable
17) I've seen him cheat himself
18) these prizes are for living men
19) in desperation, anything becomes possible
20) I'd storm heaven for you, if I knew where it was
21) ignorance is not stupidity, but it might as well be
22) with the right to rule came the duty to protect
23) they will be vastly unlucky in their children
24) but he quit just an hour too soon
25) matter remembered itself so very clearly
26) the structure of her nose alone
27) all the words in all the languages of the world that ever were or will be
28) like trying to weave a box of shadows in which to carry water
29) time and scale, both altered out of reckoning
30) even your darkness shall be treasured then
Otherwise ... another year, another au_bigbang. I signed up on Thursday and am already overwhelmed.
In fact, it took me four hours to decide what ideas interested me, disqualify the canon-compliant ones, then narrow it down, and finally chose one. In case someone's amused, here are the ideas, with the final ones bolded.
--the story I considered in the planning stages for FI, but ultimately discarded: only Darcy is genderswapped (Henry was fun, but it was allllllll about the girl!Darcy for me) and it's femmeslash.
--P&P/SW crossover: I heard some Austenfans talking about how a P&P/SW fusion would work, only they were trying to fuse the main couples (Han/Leia and Darcy/Elizabeth), and for some reason assumed that the abrasive, proud aristocrat would obviously be Elizabeth and the independent, easy-going one would be Darcy. And while I figured if you were going with that, it'd make much more sense to have Leia as Darcy and Han as Elizabeth (and it would probably turn my pupils into hearts), I thought it would work better not to fuse the characters, just transplant the P&P characters/basic storyline into the SW setting. So yeah, Darcy and Elizabeth fight crime! With lightsabers!
--sequel to Lucy (maybe mini?)
--Han/Luke/Leia quasi-platonic life partners thing with bi!Han, ace!Luke, straight!Leia
--Pseudo-academic SW fic, an “annotated bibliography” type thing
--Pseudo-academic P&P fic, like an encyclopedia entry/excerpts from a biography/Wikipedia page for Elizabeth
--PT AU: basically the backstory from Revenge, but compliant with ROTJ (so Anakin/Padmé, Luke and Leia are twins, etc)
--P&P/ATLA fusion: again, P&P characters in the ATLA setting, probably during Kyoshi's (??) time
--SW/ATLA fusion: ditto, only Anakin is an Avatar gone horribly wrong
--SW AU: Obi-Wan doesn't stowaway in Padmé's ship, Anakin doesn't attack her, she still dies (of blood loss kthx) and the twins grow up with daddy!Vader, who turns at some point in their childhood when Palpatine makes the mistake of threatening them.
--SW AU: Luke goes to Alderaan, Leia goes to Tatooine
--SW AU: Luke and Leia are brought up together by Owen and Beru
--SW: as a fantasy novel(la)
--SW: the ANH backstory is roughly true, but it was Obi-Wan who killed Anakin, he's not a villain, and Vader is still redeemed
--SW: Dooku finds and trains Anakin
--SW: Valorum accepts the word of the Jedi Knights he sent, there's no vote of no confidence, Padmé remains Palpatine's protégée, and eventually he manipulates the Senate into declaring her Empress (and he her beloved chancellor, of course) wheeeeee dark!Padmé
--SW: Qui-Gon doesn't die, Anakin becomes his student
--SW: Anakin leaves earlier and rescues Shmi, way less Dark Side-y but still plenty of shit to come
--SW: Anakin dies in the Battle of Coruscant. Yup.
--SW: Owen dies about five years after ROTS and Obi-Wan and Beru bond platonically to take care of Luke
--SW: girl!Luke, more characteristically, runs away ~15 and is accepted into the Academy on the strength of her superpowers, very quickly comes to the attention of the authorities and then upwards to Vader himself
--SW: apocalypse fic, between ESB and ROTJ (it kills Palpatine yay) [probably better for a mini]
--SW: Vader accepts Luke's offer in ROTJ and they fight crime
--SW: Leia turns to the Dark Side; Luke doesn't, but sticks with her anyway because his sister
--SW: Leia, post-ROTJ, coming to terms with things and going off to find Luke and be a Jedi and she ends up grandmaster (Leia/Han, Leia/Han/Luke platonic life partners)
--P&P/HP fusion, c. 1790s
--P&P crack: Darcy and Emma are twins separated at birth
--P&P/ST fusion - Elizabeth as Kirk, Darcy as Spock
--P&P/MP crossover sequel; Fitzwilliam/Mary, Henry-->Georgiana + Darcy and Elizabeth become matchmakers and awesome progressive politicians
--P&P AU: not awful Darcy/Fitzwilliam or Darcy/Elizabeth/Fitzwilliam
I ended up choosing the ridiculously complex PT Revenge-ish AU, so we'll see how that goes. :\

on 2012-03-30 07:38 am (UTC)“Leia! We’ve got company!”
Of course he couldn’t hold them off for more than a few seconds. She shot a narrow-eyed glance over her shoulder, then rushed forward, running her fingers over the entry pad. The door whooshed open.
A slim, fair-haired boy of about her own age was curled up on a bench. He stretched and yawned, then opened his eyes to look up at her.
Leia caught her breath, feeling as stunned as she had when she’d first caught sight of his hologram. She didn’t know what it was -- not just a silly crush, whatever Han said -- but she knew she had to get him out of here.
He sat up, eyeing her with all the suspicion of a Rebel prince who’d been at the mercy of the Empire for a month. “Who are you?”
“I’m Leia Skywalker,” she told him, and lifted her chin. “I’m here to rescue you.”
alt!Darcy is pretty much an asshole jsyk
on 2012-04-23 04:58 am (UTC)Darak didn't like the obscure Earth Kingdom village he'd had the misfortune to find himself in. He didn't like their muddy little stream and he didn't like the local dances and he didn't like Baelin's house (or relatives), and he didn't like the men of the village and he didn't much like the women either. Baelin couldn't possibly be considering staying here—
Except it was Baelin. He very well might.
Darak had never thought of himself as a sentimental man. Still, as Ru and Huan exchanged banal nothings over tea, and Baelin babbled about someone called Zhen, he couldn't help a sudden sharp longing for his own family and his own people. His gaze, almost of its own will, turned northward.
Baelin was still chattering at his sisters. Darak quietly excused himself and wandered out onto a small balcony. The stars were dim tonight, blotted out by the full harvest moon. At home, he and Kuro would be taking the opportunity to put their skills against each other, when each was at his most powerful, then perhaps teaching Jianka some advanced techniques that normally she couldn't yet manage.
The elders might not approve, but never mind them. His sister needed to be able to defend herself, even now. Particularly now.
His lips thinned. Darak glanced away from the moon, at the cheerful glow behind him, then back to the moonlit night. He grabbed one of the waterskins he carried with him—really, three? Kuro had scoffed—and tossed the water over the ledge, bending it into ice as it fell. With another glance over his shoulder, he leapt over the railing and slid down. What Baelin didn't know wouldn't hurt him.
He recovered his water, put the waterskin back on his belt, and hurried away from the house, into Baelin's park. Here, he wouldn't be bothered by any other human being—nobody could have a legitimate reason to trespass at this hour. An illegitimate one, perhaps; Baelin had said something about poachers.
Darak strolled on, supremely indifferent to any danger. He would not have feared them at the worst of times. Walking under the golden moon in the heart of the Earth Kingdom, he did not fear anything. No earthbender but Avatar Kyoshi could threaten him tonight.
Fortunately, no trespassers—earthbenders or otherwise—crossed his path, and he ducked into the small wood at the edge of Baelin's lands. The trees all but blotted out the light of the moon and stars, leaving him in dark, peaceful solitude, until he caught sight of a dull, flickering glow, not far away. Perhaps the poachers were here.
He scowled and hurried forward, pausing only when he heard the crackle of fire. Darak's fingers curled around his waterskins.
He slipped through the trees, then stopped as the unsteady gleams resolved into weak bursts of flame, emerging from the fists of a young Earth Kingdom girl. Earth Kingdom by apparel and appearance, anyway; she was far too small to be Kyoshi.
Interesting.
The girl, illuminated by the glow of her own firebending, continued to practice what he could only assume constituted firebending forms. He didn't know any firebenders personally and had little understanding of the art, but her movements seemed a little awkward, untutored. But then, how would a young firebender find a master here? She must be talented, to bend even so well as this, with no proper training and no sunlight.
The girl stopped to scrub sweat off her brow and dropped to the ground, leaning an elbow on her knee. A small flame flickered on her other hand, then went out when she heaved a loud sigh.
Darak jerked away. She might be a trespasser, but she wasn't a vandal, and he certainly had no intention of attacking an untrained firebender in the middle of the night. There was no appropriate reason to keep watching her. Besides, Baelin might very well have missed him by now, if he'd finished listing Zhen's many perfections. Darak headed back towards the house without another glance at the firebender.
There was something familiar about her, he thought, and felt a vague sense of interest. Perhaps he'd see her again.
