Re: the doors - Yeah, it's possible. It seems to me like the door closing stops him dead (and I was looking at it in more of a meta than an in-story sense, though I jump back and forth between them a lot), but since we don't see what happens next, it's not hard to work with, continuity wise. I did remember later that lightsabers cutting through metal is a thing from at least as early as ROTJ (when Luke loses it on the Death Star) and probably from the duel in ESB.
