After the battle of Scarif, some in the Alliance had celebrated. It was proof that the Empire could be challenged on its own territory—outwitted, outmaneuvered, even beaten in some sense. Davits Draven saw no purpose in discouraging the fervor of those who remained.

Jun. 16th, 2023 08:10 amI'm genuinely torn between whether I prefer the always-private setting to Dreamwidth messages, or the usually-public answering of Tumblr ones. I've had interesting conversations with anons who could only be answered publicly, say, and others from logged-in users that are still clearly meant to be answered in public, sort of like letters used to be. It's often a very cool dynamic!
But it also allows for trolls etc (I've had them, and I think people with more, hmm, vulnerable personas get them more) and the option to choose public/private answers doesn't prevent you from seeing messages. Of course, you can turn off anon, but there are still bots and simply unpleasant people, while vicious coordinated campaigns are unwieldy to carry out via Dreamwidth messages, esp with the ability to switch them to Access List only.
So I guess I prefer Dreamwidth's approach, as usual, but I do miss the ... ask culture, I guess, of Tumblr? I suppose it would be possible to screenshot or copy-paste one into an entry if the sender wanted, but it's not the same.
