P&P and Sorting Hat Chats: Elizabeth

anghraineI’m bored and procrastinating, so … coming back to P&P and sortinghatchats with Elizabeth Bennet.
I stand by my original sorting: Slytherin Primary (overwhelmingly driven by her own welfare and that of the people she’s personally attached to) + Gryffindor Secondary (direct, honest, passionate, inspirational).
I could actually see an argument for the Hufflepuff Primary—Elizabeth is intensely pro-social and a strong adherent of following conventions of respect and courtesy towards everyone (contrary to popular conception!), and she demands the same out of others. This is her moral problem with Darcy, beyond his personal insult to her, and how Wickham is able to mislead her. She operates on this is what we owe to each other, as people.
… But I feel like that’s more what Elizabeth consciously believes and tries to act out than what fundamentally drives her. At heart, her first priority is the pursuit of her happiness and those of the handful of people dear to her, and if it disrupts the social order that she mostly tries to uphold … eh, that’s what the Gryffindor Secondary is for. It also makes her a highly inspiring figure, especially to Darcy (a methodical Ravenclaw—more on that later).
It makes for a very loud Gryffindor Secondary, but I think that’s pretty typical of Slytherin Primaries, whose highly internal drives often leave the secondary to shine.
(In the sortinghatchats system, Primary/Secondary isn't a matter of literal primacy, just the order that the creators first thought of them and split them up. So I'd consider Elizabeth a pretty clear Gryffindor in HPland, but it splits out into the secondary under this not-very-canonical but fun system.)
This may be part of the reason that Mary Crawford often registers to people as a similar type, despite really being quite different; she’s another Slytherin Primary with a vocal Gryffindor Secondary (but absent the Hufflepuff model). Additionally, both Elizabeth and Mary are contrasted with counterparts who quietly and steadfastly follow their instinctive, internally-directed convictions as Gryffindor Primaries/Hufflepuff Secondaries.
I am only resolved to act in that manner, which will, in my own opinion, constitute my happiness, without reference to you, or to any person so wholly unconnected with me.
