I missed yesterday and ... completely failed to realise it. Gah, way too busy -- my brain is fried. First there was voting (which turned out pretty much as I expected, but is still depressing; I'm just glad I live safely within Portland's liberal miasma), then I had a Spanish exam today and ... eh, I suck at listening comprehension. At least the conjugations were pretty easy, though I couldn't remember the conjugation of poder in the preterite first-person singular. SpanishDict tells me it's pude, which I think is what I put down anyway, so ... yay. Anyway!

Day Five: Who is your favourite pirate?

I'm pretty sure nobody ever calls him that, but it's got to be Han.

... That's the first time it's occurred to me that he's pretty much HAN SOLO SPACE PIRATE. Awesome. Of course, all the main characters of the OT (Anakin/Vader, Luke, Leia, and Han) are so awesome that I'm surprised the original tapes didn't spontaneously combust or something, but still. SPACE PIRATE.

<3

I don't talk about Han much, mostly because ... well, it's not that he doesn't have character growth, but he becomes increasingly irrelevant after Jabba's palace. And the only thing about ESB that is less than pure distilled awesome is that squicky dub-con kiss. Yes, I know, it's a big shippy moment, but it is squicky. Leia says no, and he doesn't respect that, and -- um, prequel!Anakin at his creepiest was much more respectful of boundaries. But Han's way better in ROTJ (...the only thing that is, really), and he's a deeply attractive, intriguing and kickass character in general.

And the best space pirate ever.

Day 6: What is your favourite political entity?

In my happy headcanon, the Jedi Order isn't a political entity (and becomes still less of one under Luke, who's basically expected to be good!Vader by the restored Republic and young!Yoda by most of the dead Jedi, while real!Yoda and Obi-Wan are just zen and Anakin is 'screw them, my son' </headcanon>), so I can't choose that. Um.

Well, I can't choose the Empire. The Alliance doesn't interest me and we don't see much of it as a political entity anyway. So I guess I'll go for the old Republic, because it sounded vaguely interesting in the OT and I like the idea of an massive interplanetary Senate (especially one that manages to survive the dissolution of the Republic by decades; Imperial Senators = hardcore). Also, the floating seats were kind of cool.

One of the things I really kind of like from the prequels is the senate chamber. It's EPIC. (Also, I am forever amused that they actually have the aliens from ET chilling in the floating seats in the big Senate Scene of The Phantom Menace. They even have their own Wookieepedia entry: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Children_of_the_Green_Planet )
